  1. I put together a very short (7 min) video in premiere using footage from my dv camcorder. My question: I'd like to put the movie on VCD. Since it's so short, I figure there's probably enough room on a CD to store the video at DVD quality. Is this possible? Are there limits to the quality of a vcd? Does DVD authoring software burn to CD? And will the result play in a DVD player? Any recommendations for how to approach this? I want DVD quality on VCD. Thanks!

    rylog812,

    criss-cross, he, he...

    ...you mean, "you want DVD quality on a CD!"

    VCD=352x240 / 1150 bitrate / 224k audio / vbv 40 /

    DVD=720x480 / aprox 7000 vbr bitrate / 48k audio / vbv 224

    now, your DV...
    DV=720x480 / bitrate / 48k audio

    ----------------------------------------------

    For your 7 minute DV footage,
    1, drag your DV avi file into tmpg (be sure Video/Audo have this AVI.
    2, What you can do is, using tmpg, load up the DVD template,
    NTSC or PAL, make sure that your framerate is 29.970, as no
    DV (AFAIK) support FILM mode (23.976)
    3, Make sure that Interlace is on
    4, Make sure that you select Inverse 32 (NOT 32pulldown) (willBsmooth)
    5, encode your DV
    6, burn with Nero (or any other CD burner you have)
    7, pop into your DVD player, and enjoy!

    Or, you could use another Encoder. I just showed you TMPGs' cause
    that is the one I have. Pansionic doesn't have MEPG2 support yet,
    afaik, and CCE is wayyyy to expansive $4000 (or I think they lowered
    it to $2000 now? but cracks Rn't allowed here - course you know that)

    If, however, you want to create an actual DVD type encode,
    ie, a VOB file, then someone here will hopefully will show you,
    as I don't have a DVD burner and Author Software to help here - sorry
    I know there are plenty of people her w/ dvd burners and author
    software w/ experience on this, and they can definately help you out
    in this VOB endeavor.

    Good luck.
