I've done the xVCD route and now want to test the sVCD route. I have a file (.avi @ ~640x480) and encode it using TMPEG and default svcd template. My question is based on my first test run. Firstly, I could only fit roughly 40 minutes onto a 80 min cd (approx. 2500 CBR). Secondly, the screen resolution was not all that wonderful. Any comments for a newbie? I realize there are probably many things that I'm ignorant about...but bear with me.

the quality of your encode will depend on how good your source file is. if you want to get more minutes on a disc you can lower your bitrate, but you will lose quality. hope that helps you.

the source seems to be better (quality) than the encoded file. I think something is happening during the encoding process. Should I raise the default resolution to something higher (maybe 720x480) or try BVR 2 pass? But this is starting to get back into the xVCD genre. Is there any advantage to my experimentation?

if i were you i would just try one thing at a time. experimentation is
good, thats one way you learn. the best thing to do is to read the guides
<------ and follow them, especially if you are new to this
