  1. Hi,
I can't seem to be able to change my image Format to YUY2 or 24 bit RGB or anything other than UYVY in virtual dub. I want to get better quality and i assume that my inability to change image format is my problem. I have gone to Set custom video format and i can select different screen sizes but any other data format (other than UYVY-YUV 4:2:2 interleaved) i select gives me an error:unsupported video format. I am runnning a p-4 2.0ghz system with windows XP and i use a geforce 3 Ti200 pro card to capture.

Really appreciate any and all help.

That's because its a decompression codec for formats that are generated during capture. The codec's don't do encoding because the actual encoding is done during video capture on the capture chip.

  5. Hum, I have a Geforce 2 GTS video card with the VIVO module addon... I wonder if it is something with the add on module. I agree with you gnomeinyourpants, I wouldn't think that the card would be limited to one setting... Mine is 640X480 UYVY YUV 4:2:2 Interleaved.

    Hopefully it can do more....

Please someone respond on this issue

You guys aren't using the generic nVidia drivers are you? You are using drivers specific to your card manufacturer? What about WDM drivers?

Granted, I have a mere GeForce1 (ASUS V6800) but I can pretty much choose any format and resolution I want.

An older version of the WDM is available on my site (linked below). Yeah, there is a newer version, but 1.04 hasn't failed me yet.

  7. I am using Elsa Video Drivers that are for my video card that support XP and the Elsa drivers for my VIVO module. I was looking to see what WMD drivers I have and it says under System, File Version 5.1.2600.0.

Does this sound correct to you? Thanks for your input HillJack

WDM 1.04 is 5.0.2195.1340. You must have 1.08 or higher. Out of curiosity, what's the "Product Version"? Maybe try downloading whatever the latest version is from nVidia and re-installing. I don't think 1.04 supports XP (atleast according to the readme file). Or try 1.04 from my site... You never know, it could work

Also, I assume your running DirectX 8.1a? I don't know what version XP comes with -- I still use Win 2K

  9. Ok, I looked for the version of DirectX, but couldn't find it anywhere. Could you help me out with this... I know this sounds bad, but usually I can find these things.

I am not sure what you mean by product version, do you mean the video card driver if so this is it

    Driver Provider ELSA
    Driver Date 12/31/2000
    Driver Version 6.7.2.0
    Driver Signer Not digitally signed

I don't believe I can get stock Elsa drivers that are made for XP that will be digitally signed, due to the fact that Elsa went out of buisness. I did download these from a Elsa website, Japan I think.

Man this is kinda frustrating.... but thanks for your help

    Yep..

Sorry, I was thinking your trying to use a capture codec to encode. I realize now your trying to set the capture codec.

I just tried the YUY2 in Vdub to capture and it works fine, perhaps something has been overwritten by another codec ?

  12. Well, I have done a complete reload of my system and it still was a no go as far as using the YUY2 setting... I guess it just isn't ment to be with this video setup.... I figure the UYVY setting shouldn't be to bad....

    Thanks again

  13. A grabbed a quote from Avery Lee's website:

    *****

Ultimately, you will need to choose a format which is compatible with the codec, but if you have a choice, always choose YUY2, UYVY, or YVYU over RGB24. Here's why:

TV cards generally use one of two chips, either the Zoran ZR36120 (FlyVideo-derived devices), or the Brooktree/Conexant BT8x8 series (everyone else). If you look at the datasheets for these chips you will find that they either accept YUV 4:2:2 data from the decoder or produce it internally. Guess how they produce RGB24 data when you ask for it? You guessed it, the YUV 4:2:2 data is upsampled to RGB24. This means that the extra color resolution that RGB24 gives is entirely fabricated.

Choosing YUY2/UYVY/YVYU over RGB24 typically gives you a sizable speed increase, and gives you better compression with Huffyuv.

    ******

I'd say that, most capture chipsets will produce one raw data type only - if you can only select UYVY, then that's the format that the chipset manufacturer has decided to use to represent the raw color data coming out of the card.

    good luck
