I have the ATI-TV card and recently purchased powervcr II. When I go into the profile setting it give me various options, however, not 480 x 480 (which is the only one I am interested in). I checked this site and found a few pages that talked about the registry tweeks. HEre's what happened:
I go into the registry and add 480 x 480 to the allvid piece (cant remember the name offhand). I then open powervcr and it now has the option of 480 x 480. I set the profile and save it. When I look at the profile "explanation" which tells you your settings, it says 340 x 480???? More curious still is when I do my capture. It captures at 240 x 480![]()
I have even went into the registry and deleted the allvid settings. The profile says "same as original". When I start a capture it looks to be 480 x 480 (screen size doesnt change). However, when I try to load it into nero it says that it is 320 x 480 (not a missprint).
I have also change the registery to 960 x 480 because I had the goofy idea based on other values I was putting in there, that it cut in half the first number. The result on that was 320 (or 240, cant remember).
I am on XP, it is a ATI-TV card, 1.2g 256meg ram 40 gig 7200rpm HD, e-machine. Powervcr II v3, nero v5.5.8.
If someone could tell me how they fixed the issue or direct me to where I can find the answer, I'd appreciate it (I've already tried stinky's tweek tool and it didn't work (doesn't find the file when the command prompt is opened), I read through his other post as well.

McLeod, this is the post on VCDHELP.COM that helped me...
http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=88306
I did not use Stinky's tool. I'm not certain it's appropriate for the ATI TV Wonder card (either the full one or the VE version, which I'm using). I think he intended it for ATI's TV-Wonder video cards with capture capability. I went in and used REGEDIT to edit the values in WINvcr's entries that he suggested specifically.
All I can say is, it works for me. It gave me a 480 x 480 resolution, and with that I created a custom profile (named Modeler SVCD after the guy who created the original posts).
The captures are better than anything ATI's own software produced. The only problem is that the editing tool in WINvcr is clumsy. It might be that the frames in MPEG-2 files are "clumped" together, and you can't really do frame-accurate edits. But it's impossible to edit commercials cleanly out of the show with their editor. I always edit a few seconds early. (This isn't too bad - it's the way I used to edit on VHS. I never expected frame-accurate edits while using the Evil Spawn of Bill Gates anyway.)
Even though Modeler's post seems a little rushed and confusing, read it carefully and follow his instructions. As I say, it worked for me.Animation and geeky reviews and podcasts at

thanks for the information
I read this post originally. All I did in the registry was change the allvideosize piece, I did not change the other items.
When I looked at it, it looked like the other parts were for the megabyte file size and not the cap resolution. Was I thinking incorrectly? I'll try to read the directions and change the registry around the way it says (don't tell my wifethat I actually followed the directions).

I guess I now know why my wife always yells at me for not reading directions. I made all the changes and it still wasn't getting me 480 x 480. I then noticed this patch on cyberlink's site and downloaded it. Then I downloaded the correct patch (had I read the directions for my powervcr cd, I would have noticed deluxe instead of standard)
After installing the patch and rebooting (just for safe measure). I actually got 480 x 480!!!!!!! :P
I then copied a movie and when my wife looked at it she asked how that was playing because the vcr wasn't turned on. With the biggest grin I told her that I have cut my first correct SVCD
