Hm... jasQfix at DVDplusRW.org forum asked me the same thing.

    http://www.dvdplusrw.org/cgi/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=2&topic=1651&start=80

No idea and that was why I posted it here to see if there's anyone who heard of CD+RW.

That press release of Oak Technology was the first source I've encountered mentioning anything called CD+RW. It does not look like a casual typo since it said "CD-RW and CD+RW" meaning CD+RW is something different from CD-RW. Possibly it is just CD-RW plus CD-ROM, replacing the CD-R with CD-RW in CD-ROM Plus.

CD+RW must be that new breakaway format supported by an alliance of manufacturers including Sony, HP, and Dell. It offers a significantly faster burn speed over conventional 40 x CD-RW drives.

Yes, folks, you can now burn CD+RW discs at 41 x speed.

You'll soon be able to burn CD+R one-write discs as well.

Oh, um, and many players may not like the new CD+R and CD+RW discs. But don't worry, you can buy a new player that will support them by the end of the year.

With this staggering burn speed advantage, the superior CD+RW is positioned to eliminate the dated CD-RW format within mere hours.

  5. The burn time really doesn't bother me all that much - its not like it takes a long time anyways - sounds like something for PROs who are trying to save time in there work day so they can work MORE - and sounds like another way to eat up our cash. HHMMMM

You mean Philips has introduced CD208, the long-awaited 100x CD+RW drive?

    24x CD-RW in a few weeks and 32x CD-RW being prepared. I hope 24x and 32x 700MB CD-RW media won't cost more than $1 per disk.

Could this CD+RW format be the new one that TDK was talking about around 6 months ago? The one that uses dual layer, similar to DVDs, but on a CD+RW, thereby giving you 1.3 Gigs on a CD+RW.

Why do you say it is a typo?

It said "CD-RW and CD+RW" and CD+RW was a typo for DVD+RW or CD-MRW or what?

There was no correction so far.

I don't think so. Sony introduced DD CD-R and DD CD-RW. 1.3GB on CD but not readable with existing CD-ROM and CD-RW drives.

Calimetrics and Plextor were going to introduce 2GB ML CD-RW but they realized it was already too outdated so decided to go right into ML DVD- and Blu-ray-based formats.

Philips and Sony are the two out of nine founding companies of DVD+RW Alliance and they were most responsible for the invention and development of CD and DVD.

You seem to resort to personal attack and insult instead of concentrating on discussion of technologies. Three straight posts destroy the discussion or something?

Exactly what makes you the person to decare this thread created by me is dead?

  17. Don't be so obtuse.

It is a typographic error. People are allowed to make them. There is no such thing as CD+RW. Who knows what they actually meant... It may have been anything or nothing.

    Regards.
