  1. I am new to this and could use all the help ou there to tell me what I am doing wrong. I have a Sony DVP-S560D player and it shows it is compatible to play VCD/SVCD but when I insert the disc it says NO DISC. They play on my PC using windvd but I can't get them to play on my dvd player. Anyone have any suggestions. I have wasted countless disc burning movies and I am at my wits end on this. Please please help me.

  2. Look in the Players section on this site: http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=437&Search=Search&#comments - it says it will play some CD-Rs. Check the CD-R brands reported to work or use CD-RWs.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  3. I looked in there and I went by what others have posted. I am using Memorex 700mb/80 min CD-R. Here is another question that I am not sure about. I am downloading these movies off WinMX and they are in Mpeg format do I still need to use TMPGEnc to encode the movie then burn it using Nero? I know that might sound stupid but I am so new to this and I want to learn as much as I can so I can burn vcd's to play in my dvd player for my daughter. I have downloaded numerous movies and soent alot of time now I am so stuck on burning the movie to disk. Any help would be appreciated greatly. Should I try another brand name disk like the ones from Circuit City? And I was told I had to update my dvd player? Not sure what they mean. I went to the page and read something about regions etc but I have no idea what that is or what it means. I followed the steps on the page but still the disk doesn't play. Anyone give me some advice here before I pull out all my hair........LOL

  4. honestly, my friend has a sony that supports vcds as well and he has problems playing burned vcds. it's fine when playing REAL VCD's that you buy, but maybe it doesn't support CDR disks, which sony usually doesn't. i have an apex player and it works like a charm. get the apex 3 disk changer for $99 at circuit city. i use the black memorex CDR's as well on my apex and have no problems.

  5. Shady - If you keep looking around on here and other sites I am sure you will find someone who has the same player and problem. Even talk to the people who posted there comments on the DVD Players list on the left bar.

  6. Thanks for the info.........I have read the post on people who do have the same player as me and some say they got it to work fine and some said they didn't. That is what is confusing me. The vcd works fine on my pc but not my player. But what I was asking is if I need to encode the mpeg I got off winmx or are they already encoded to just burn as is?????? I really don't want to go out and spend money on another dvd player and then it wont work for me :/ I have read and read material on all of this and still and trying to sort it all out in my head. And can anyone tell me what this is about upgrading my dvd player with a region hack???? Again I am a newbie not like I know what all of this is.......hee hee

What was said in reports section was that it plays very few CDR's
but will play most CDRW's....so quit wasting CDR's and buy some CDRW's.
Here is what most pep's agree with:

STI Digital Media (Circuit City) CD-Rs work perfect!
For some reason, 700MB CD-Rs take longer to be detected. But other-wise, they're perfect. (these dont work for everyone either)

CDs I've tried that DO NOT work:
    Imation: CD-R or CD-RW
    Maxell: CD-R
    TDK: CD-R
    Sony: CD-R

  8. OK Mad I will buy some of those disk at Circuit City. That takes care of that but the one thing I need to know is do I need to encode the Mpeg I download from WinMX? It is taking like over 3 hours to encode half a movie. Or do I not need to do that? Is the movie I downloaded already set to just use Nero and burn it? Dang I know I sound like such a dork but I just want to understand all of this.

Again thanks to all who have answered some of my questions!

  9. as long as the .mpg file is in VCD or SVCD standard format which includes 480x480 (NTSC) size and 44.1 audio and bitrate under a certain level, it should be fine to just burn. you can just drag the .mpg in nero and create the cd using the SVCD template. note, timelines get screwed up and no chapters in nero so i would recommend using vcdeasy to create the timeline and chapters so your player is more likely to accept the cds. also use vcdeasy to verify it's a complaint vcd or svcd before you burn. nero will do the same though when you go through the VCD or SVCD templates.

  10. OK I am downloading VCDeasy. Can I also burn with that program or is it suggested I burn it with Nero? And which version of Nero should I be using? I have 5.5.7.2 do I need to upgrade or is that version fine. I am running on Windows ME.

  11. honestly, i trust nero for burning more than i do vcdeasy and cdrao. i've wasted many cds in vcdeasy when burning and nero hasn't failed once. so what i do is create the image and chapters with vcdeasy, it creates the bin and cue file, and just burn the image with nero by opening the cue file and that's it. that version should be fine unless it's not supported in ME or your burner is not supported. in every version of nero, they add more and more drivers for cd burners and 5.5.8.2 supports XP and i'm sure ME as well.

  12. Well I have good news. I went out and bought STI digital Media CD-R disk and burned a movie on it and it works AWESOME on my dvd player. But I first encoded the movie to the right specs. Ratio, fps, size etc with TMPGEnc program and used Nero to burn the CD at 2x speed. I want to thanks everyone who gave me advice and all the advice on this web site.

Also to add I did test the other burned vcd's I made on Memorex CD-R 700mb/80 the ones that did not work on my Sony DVP-S560D but the did work on my friends Apex dvd player. I am not sure what model number but I will find out and post it. I do suggest if you download the movies from the net to encode them with TMPGEnc to make sure they are the right specs. Again thanks to everyone I am now very HAPPY!!!!
