I want to end up with 60 minutes of video burned onto a VCD.
I've done some capturing of small test portions of the VHS tapes I want to put on VCD's and found that the raw "capture rate" is about 1 minute of my VHS tape for every approx 30Meg on my hard drive space. And that I can use TMPGenc to compress it(at a 16 to 9 ratio) down to about 17Meg. to get more movie per MB of VCD disc space with pretty good quality.
If I capture about 107 minutes of video tape, which would take about 3.21Gig, then use the 16 to 9 TMPGenc compressor, I'd end up with about 60 mins of VDC, Right? Or am I not figuring something right? Somehow I thought I'd need more hard drive space.
Please tell me, I have SO much to learn!
Thank you

Ok, I was thinking in even hour increments per VCD, but then if I wanted to end up with 80 minutes of burned movie, I would raw capture for about 142 minutes to compress it with TMPGenc to 80 mins. Is that Right?
with 22Gig of free hard drive space is that possible? I somehow though that Huge gigabytes of hard drive space would be used in capturing. But it doesn't sound like it, or am I wrong. -
its as simple as this:
vcd standards are CBR this means constant bitrate so in other words the bitrate is the same throughout the movie. It work out 10mb per minit and and when a vcd is written it is written in mode 2 this allow for an extra 90mbs of space. This means 74 mins per cd-r.

Ok,
But please tell me how much hard drive space it takes to capture and encode with TMPGenc, etc. in order to burn a 74 minute VCD?
thank you, Baker -
I'm using the MovieStar software that came with my Dazzle Video Creator II. And although it seems easy to use, I don't see anything in the manual about this.
Do you know anything about the Dazzle MovieStar program? And how much disk space it needs to capture enough VHS video to burn a 74 min. VCD?
Or are ther any Dazzle users here? -

Th link to you guide is bad, probably because of spaces

Baker(I got to your site just fine, but am in the US, so don't use PAL),
are you talking about capturing with VirtualDub? I may try that when I get more experience, but for now I think I want to use my Dazzle MovieStar program(will some added plug-ins other talented people have created to improve it), since I'm sort of used to practicing with it...and the re-encoding/compressing with TMPGenc.
Am I misunderstanding what you are saying? Again, are you talking about capturing with VirtualDub?
AND would somebody please amswer that question I asked, please. It may sound lame to all the experienced users here, but I'd like to get a rough idea of how much space on my hard drive it would take to capture enough to fill my VCD.
thank you
