  1. I have successfully made my first SVCD using the Provideo PV-256 card. It plays back fine on my DVD player and the quality is great. However, I do have one problem: I cannot fast foward or rewind the disc, it returns to the beginning if I do this. The 'GOTO' function allows me to skip to any point on the disc, but I have to double the time I enter, e.g. 20mins to go to 10 mins. I am using Nero 5 to burn the disc and have followed the guide. I have copied scandata.dat to the Ext directory as instructed. Is it a problem with my DVD player, which has no problems playing every type of disc under the Sun.

    Any thoughts?

  2. re: your problems with ff/rw. typically, nero has been known to be iffy on svcd specs. though i haven't used nero for svcds [started with i-author, have moved to tscv], my only guess would be that something went wrong with nero. (what version exactly do you have? there have been numerous changes from 5.0x -> 5.5.x).

if you want to be sure, i'd recommend a freeware program called TSCV, which is a very powerful gui to vcdimager. if all you want is to burn with ff/rw enabled, it is very simple. and over time, you may want to try your hand at chapters, menus etc. you can try it and see if it is your dvd player or if it was nero.

you can get it at www.ttool.de.

    regards.

    aspirinwizard,

I have the same puzzling problem. FF works on vcd's but not on svcd's. Did you ever come up with a way to fix this?

  4. Newer versions of Nero (not sure what they are up to now but I have 5.5.8.2) include a better scandata.dat file which gives FF/REW. Older versions did not include this file and it is needed for the SVCD specs. There is a work around if you have version 5.5.6.4 or earlier. Check the Authoring guides for Nero on this site, they have a small file (scandata.dat) that you can download and add to the EXT folder of the SVCD. Be forewarned that adding this file disables the "Goto" function for a lot of players.

Personally, while Nero works for SVCDs I would recommend using either VCDEasy or TSVC as both are much better at producing compliant SVCDs.

Since I have started using VCDEasy I have FF/REW and the goto function works perfectly (i.e. do not have to double the time or anything). Just a tip, use whatever works best for you.
