  1. Alright recently on Ebay I've seen these movies for sale and say they have dd5.1 ,chapters and also chinese subtiles that can be turned off.
So I assume they must be from China. Kind of like the laser disc thing only released in China.

Now does anybody know for sure if these are legit or are the laserdisc rips or something else?

Also has anyone heard of a release date for these three movies in the USA I really don't want to pay $100+ for these if they are due out soon in the USA.

    Thanks in advance

Lucas already said (even before Ep 1 was out in theaters) that 4-6 will not be released on DVD until 1-3 are out .... y'know, have the huge box set, maybe some replica light saber or something special in the package.

Gotta milk the franchise for all it's worth.

  3. These are not official DVD's, they wont be released until 2006 at the earliest. As for the quality there are supposedly multiple versions of the DVD bootlegs with the quality varying for each version. However the source is most likely laserdisc if the claim of 5.1 channel dolby digital is true

  4. I have got a copy of these on dvd. and it is a copy of the laser disk version.

its not the lucasfilm release though.

as pac said, George has confirmed that he wont be looking at getting the DVD's out until after he has finished episode3 and can give himself some time to sit down and make a comprehensive package for everyone. Its all about his free time.

its worse if you are an Indiana Jones fan, as Spielberg and Lucas have confirmed that they are trying to make time in there schedules to do these together. probably 6 years away.

  5. Well thanks guys I kinda thought that they were bootlegs

I love star wars as well as George Lucas but this wait is killing me.

Last thing I heard was that he wouldn't release these movies until 6.1 was more readily available to the consumer. Well it is now and still no Star Wars.

Who know's what he'll do next maybe when these come to DVD they will be re-mastered again so then we'll have three versions of ep4,5, and 6

    Thanks again everyone

  6. there's a guy pretty well known for great ld rips in the a.b.vcd scene, he's done ld rips of eps 4-6 and all the indiana jones -> svcd. they're the absolute best quality i've scene. in fact i think there was just a repost or it's going on right now of the star wars rips. just fyi if anyone was interested.

  7. You can pay $100 if you like getting ripped off. Ebay is generally 1.5x retail for most items. I would avoid using it unless you seek something very hard to find. Just go to www.getvcds.com and get it from the same place the seller did. They are the special edition so they are not ld rips and I know that getvcds is all legit stuff, not bootlegs.

  9. No, it is a 3 DVD set and not a LD rip. You have to click on the DVD tab of the site to browse their DVD listings, it shows the VCDs by default.

  10. wow thanks Devnull,
I just clicked on the dvd tab and what did you know, there it is, but I still think thy are ld rips. You said they sell legit stuff but They are also selling attack of the clones right now. So go figure either way I think you just saved me some money, only $45 instead of $100

hey guys, just a follow up on the link provided up ther for purchasing the star wars dvd set. I am a huge fan of StarWars, so i went ahead and got them. I am happy to report that the are not ld rips! In fact, they are a dvd-9 disc, and are encoded in dolby digital 5.1, (not even included in the ld). anyway, just thought i would pass this on.

  12. there's something fishy about this though....lucas films has not released them on dvd yet....it's been stated by them a 100 times...i think this company did get these from ld or some other source and just created dvd's, maybe remastered sound or something to make it 5.1. but i'd bet a grand that these are in no way legitimate dvd's, authorized by lucas.

9 disc set? If each movie takes up 1 dvd, what's on the other 3?

no dvd-9, meaning its a dual layer disc. This also means that the disc was pressed, not burt, as most bootleg dvd's are. After further inspection, i have found that the video is interlaced based, so it may be a ld rip. Im still extremely curious about the dts and 5.1 audio channel. LD's do not have that, they only have pro-logic. Still studying them......i will post what i find.

  15. my set must be from a different source then.

as mine is ripped from LD. as you said the ones on offer are the Special editions. i dindt think they release the second editions on LD.

mine looks like the copy that i saw on Ld at friends place many years ago.

I believe they released the special edition ld's in asia. I ran some tests on the mpg stream, it is NTSC 720x480. They might have gotten the audio straight from the theaters, because it sounds very good. Definitely, the rip was done in asia, because of the peculiar subtitles. It was a ld rip, but they did an incredible job. The dvd box even has a upc code on it. I wish there was some type of database that i could look up this number and see if its registered. If anyone has access or know where i could do this, let me know.

  17. Would you be able to post some pictures of the quality or could someone who has them on VCD(official ones) be able to offer a comparison in terms of quality. I already own them on VCD but would buy the DVD's if it meant even better quality.

  19. Probably just a small sample (minute or so) from each movie showing some action if that isnt too much trouble even screenshots of some action scenes. Thanks

  20. The special edition versions of the Star Wars trilogy were definately released on LD as a THX letter-box boxed set in the USA because I own the set. I have the SE set as well as the original pan-and-scan LDs and STAR WARS (episode 4) on LD in THX Letterbox. I use to own THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK but when I opened it I found one of the discs was broken.

Unfortunately, my sons borrowed my LD player and broke it. I was going to make some VCDs from the LDs.

http://www.dvdprofiler.com/dvdpro/index.html You have to download it, IIRC but it can tell you.

I didn't think anything was being released on laserdisc as recently as that? Where do you acquire such things? Places like tower records got rid of their laserdisc stuff before then, atleast most of it. They do have attack of the clones there and it is a telesync, but I have my own copy :P I was actually very suprised they are selling clones, I don't think they have ever sold a telesync from there in the past.

  22. I picked up my STAR WARS TRILOGY SE LD box set from I think MediaPlay in Utah a few years back. They use to sell LDs up to a couple years ago and then switched exclusively to DVD for optical media movies. I paid around $125 for the box set and the quality is very good... at least until my kids broke my only LD player!
