After I capture video, I play it back on my Pc and it plays twice as fast and no sound. Can anyone tell me what I;m doing wrong? Why is the captured video playing fast and why is there no sound?
Please help[/code]

Often people fall short, not because they have tried and failed, but because the fear of failure kept them from trying at all
-
you should be more detailed about how and what you're capturing.
I.e. capturing device/video format. And some info about dropped frames/what prog you use for playback, OS and so on. -
It seems t ome youre dropping too many frames, before I upgraded my RAM, I dropped thousands of frames in ten minutes and the video was really fast because for every 25 frames dropped it will go a second faster, you need to upgrade
-
If you are dropping frames your PC will cycle through the available frames to maintain the minimum frame rate as required by NTSC and PAL. (i.e. your video will appear faster during playback).

what capture settings are u using? That is the main part.
use:
YU12/YV12/BTYUV (I think)
30fps
CD quality audio PCM
NO RECOMPRESSION
320*240/352*288
this will give u the best quality and no a/v synch issues! make sure u have a large hdd and NTFS as this takes alot of hdd space, then u convert to VCD or whatever -
Hi,
It cant be my hard drive space. I have a p4, 1.8 GHZ, 200GB HD space. Capturing with AIW 8500, XP. I want to capture a video and convert it to VCD. What software are you all using to convert into MPEGs?
I cant understand why it is still going fast and still no sound.
Thanks for all the responses.Often people fall short, not because they have tried and failed, but because the fear of failure kept them from trying at all -
Sorry, I want to make DVDs too. I need to know what is the best software to use with the AIW 8500 and ith XP. I was using Pinacle studio 7 but it freeze when trying to capture. I changed to Sonic View but it speeds up the video and gives no sound.
Please give what software with work best with AIW & XP

boogie,
I don't know. . . R U capturing at 23fps instead of 29? ? ?
You can't IVTC this way. It don't work like that. You need to
change your captures frame rate to "29.970" and NOT 29.9760 or
29.9706 - MUST BE 29.970 only.
As for the sound. Pay attention to your instruction manual, and
or your sound card manual.
You need to set the audio for LINE-IN to on. Sometimes, its
suppose to be AUXilary, but try each one per capture, till
you have sound. Also, if you sound card app has a control applet,
use it!! Mine is the Santa Cruz. Sometmes, I have to reset it
in order for it to work, dependon on whatever software I was
using before my capturing. Cause, some software/drivers will
dissable the LINE-IN or AUXliary lines, and you now have to
re-enable them to work in your capture projects. Also, when
you do figure out which is the cause, if you control panel app
(if your sound card supplies it) under the recording settings
(usually) there is a meter. Be sure it's when in green-to-yellow.
else you'll get distortion or additional noise in your
audio. Center's usually about right-on for sound level recording.

Thanks V! I will definitely try it your way. I will keep you posted!

well, that's ur problem, u r capturing and compressing at the same time, causes a/v synch.
ATI is also ur problem, I HAVE HAD BAD luck, VERY BAD LUCK, and let's just say, I can understand their engineering work, in 3 days! -
Hi,
Is it not good to capture and compress at the same time? My AIW says that I can captureMPEG for making VCD. DO I have to use another program for the MPEG conversion? I still am not getting sound. It may be due to the fact that I have a motherboard with a sound card built in. Any recommendations on sound cards? Also, doesnt the AIW 8500 output sound?
Boy this is getting to be overwhelming... -
boogie,
stupid question, but... did you plug that BLACK cord into your
capture card's (AUX) terminal, and then to your sound card? ? ? ? ?
if you card comes with one, then you have to do the above. However,
if you card comes with the BREAKOUT feature, the purple connector
with yellow RCA, S-Video, and two RCA stero plug on one of the ends? ? ?
Fiddle with your ATI sound app, if it came with one. I don't know
anything about those ATI 8500xxx newer cards, but my old ATW card
has this purple cord I just mentioned above. However, I do remember
seeing a BLACK cord that looked like the part of a sound cord.
Refer back to yor manual's diagram for these various cords.
One more thing, if you have an IRQ conflict with your ATI sound driver
(if you capture card uses a sound driver, as my ATW does) it may not
work due to IRQ conflicts. Anyways, you may have to re-install your
ATI capture (or combo) capture card all over again to gain back
your sound.
Also, be sure that when you are set for capturing something, that
in one of the settings, you "capture audio" is [x] checked.
Also, if you are, say, capturing from a Satalite reciver, you can
use the Audio out from this reciever, and plug it into your sound
card, set audio to Aux or Line-in and you should have audio in your
captures. You'll have to test for which is line the audio is being
recorded from, ie, Aux vs. Line-in. May have to go into "Sound"
How? ? ? by double clicking on your little yellow speaker icon in
your system tray - again, double click it. Make sure you Aux and/or
Line-in is visable, and put an [x] in one of them. Do a quick few
seconds capture, and then play back, and see if you have audio.
If no Aux and/or Line-in shows up, go to Options/Properties/(Plaback)
and check each [x] box for the Aux and Line-in.
I can't think of anything else at the moment.

boogie,
Ohh, one more thing...
most people don't know this, but if they do use their Sat
rec'ver's audio-to-soundcard thing, and they capture using the
real-time mpeg1/2, they'll most likely get Audio Synch issues.
You see, when you capture real-time mpeg1/2, you software has
to compress (in real time) to mpeg1/2. This takes time to
do for each video frame. Hence, you audio sync issues, ...cause
the audio is not being compressed the same way as the video is.
AVI captures don't suffer this route. But, maybe on a real
fast system, you wont have too much of an audio synch issue.
I know this to be true based on my system (my OLDer system did
this - - I don't know if my newer one does this cause I don't
capture to mpeg in real-time when my any of my XP's)
-vhelp -
I didn't read the whole thread so please forgive me if this has been said...
If I capture video, encode to mpeg-2 and play it back using the ATI player (it came with my video card), it plays too fast. However, it is the player that is wrong. If I play it back using Videolan or Elecard, it plays just fine. Also, it plays just fine if I burn it to CD and play it in my DVD player.
No problems with the ATI player and mpeg-1 (VCD), it's only mpeg-2 (SVCD) that plays back too fast. I don't know what your hardware is, but perhaps if you also have an ATI video card and you are playing it back in the ATI player, you are experiencing the same thing I am.

Hi,
Thanks for all the great info! What would I do without this forum.
My problem may be my SOYO bareback system. I heard that the motherboards are crappy and may conflict with other drivers ( wish someone told me this before I built my system TWICE). I'm going to get an ASUS motherboard which should resolve the sound problem ( I hope)
DO NOT BUY A SOYO BAREBONE SYSTEM..
One more question, is it not good to capture and convert at the same time/ My AIW does this.
Thanks! -
Real-time encoding does NOT necessarily cause audio synch problems, I've done over a hundred. ATI MPEG streams are somewhat non-standard and have to be edited carefully.
Motherboard - hardware problems - I have had 3 various ATI cap cards on 5 or 6 different MOBOs with 6 different processors, 3 OS's, 2 or 3 sound cards, plus the on-board sound. Also 4 different MMC versions. Setup and install wasn't always a piece of cake, but has worked every time. I fix computers for a living for 12 years. You must understand that there are people in this world who can't get a Mr. Coffee to work properly.
Proper uninstall and install, latest or next-to-latest drivers, correct hardware config, and RTFM will solve 99.9% of these problems.
One trick - before installing ANY video card, and particularly ATI, uninstall old board software, reboot, install STANDARD VGA, shut down, remove old card, install new, reboot. -
Have you tried plugging your sound source directly into the line in of your computer?? Do not use AIW breakout box or you will not get sound when capturing. I have AIW 7500 with sound on motherboard. If using mono sound in, you can get an adapter to convert rca cable to mic in at radio shack. hope this helps.
