In the Wal Mart flier this week is the Apex portable DVD Player, Model PD-50 which includes a 4.5" screen, battery and AC/ DC cords. It plays DVD and MP3 but CD-R or VCD not mentioned. Can anyone share any background on this. This was a new model just out.

Thanks for pointing that out. From reading the info at walmart, it should play CD-R's, considering that it can play MP3's (and you can't buy commersially produced MP# cd's, at least commonly). And with Apex's track record of sacrificing quality for compatability (Not a problem with a 4.5" screen) it should play just about anything. I might have to drag a few VCD's and SVCD's to walmart and try it out!
EDIT: Does anybody know where I cna find more info on APEX products? I can't believe that they don't have a web page! -
I can't find it at www.walmart.com or www.walmartstores.com - anyone else have luck??

I've personally been talking about this for around a month and i can't beleive it is still causing confusion.
I read about a month ago in a magazine and it said it had a 4.5 inch screen but apex site said 5.8" screen and now walmart has retracted the statement of the 5.8' screen size?
So which is it 4.5" or 5.8" either way good price for portable dvd player
also to let you guyy know apex is coming out with two more portable models also due out soon
www.apexdigitalinc.comWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
How did APEX get the 4.3" or Walmart get the 4.5" measurments? I thought that they were diagonal measurments? If you use the diagonal of the claimed 4x5" screen that is on APEX's site, you get 6.4" (a^2 + b^2 = c^2... 16+25=c^2... c=6.4"). How do they measure the screens?
EDIT: Sorry, I am sort of a math freak. But anyways, essentially reversing the above process, if the screen is in fact the 4.3" that APEX claims, then it is a 3.25" (W) x 2.8" (H) screen. -
I wonder how much more the PD100 will cost?

Im going ahead and buying it a walmart.com. I think its a heck of a deal and i have made a few bucks fixing computers so im getting it on thursday the 29th. Does anyone know if they have it a the store walmart or is it only an online purchase? I'll give them a call tommarrow. And I'll find out if it can play VCD's. It should considering all APEX players do. Here are some help full links.

Also this is what i think walmart did:
They took the wrong picture from apex. The one they have is the PD-100 which DOES feature the 5.8inch screen.
Also this DVD Player/TV can play in you car!!! @$some! -
wow nerdfragger
after reading your post I re-visited the apex site and couldn't beleive it.
A month ago apex stated on their site that the pd-50 had a screen size of 5.8 inches which was contradictatory to what sound and vision magazine stated (Mayissue) the magazine stated that it was 4.5 inch.
Then the other day Wal-mart stated 5.8 and now the retracted that and posted it as 4.5 inches
So basically nerdfragger don't beat yourself up over trying to figure it out apex will probably not even figure it out.We were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
Hey DaMovieMastarz,
You were posting as I was typing.
but Walmart is only selling it on line
as for walmart mistaking the pd 50 for the pd-100 read my previous post
apex site said 5.8 about a month agoWe were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
Sounds like they got cheap at the last minute. Hard to believe - I thought there was a LCD display glut?!?

Most PORTABLE DVD players have a battery life between 2 hours and 4. So using my judgment and knowing apex it will most likely be 2 1/2 hours to 3.

Here is information on the 3 NEW APEX PORTABLE DVD PLAYERS
MAIN INFORMATION
APEX PD 50:
4.5" screen (4:3) viewing area
No Progressive scan
APEX PD 100
5.8" screen (16:9) viewing area
NO Progressive scan
APEX PD 150
5.8" screen (16:9) viewing area
Progressive scan
Smaller loading area
Bassically all the other features are the same
And to NERDFRAGGER:
WALMART IS infact selling the PD 50 @ $200
And to vcd4me:
The APEX site has it goofed up also they have a picture of the PD 150 for the PD 50
LAter -
WOW ths is getting more confusing by the minute
Here's what I read in may issue of sound and vision magazine
APEX PD 50:
4.5" screen (due out in may)
APEX PD 100
6" screen (no due date)
APEX PD 150
7" screen (due out in June)
None were listed as having progressive scan in sound and vision mag
Now when I first read this and went to apex site it read:
APEX PD 50:
5.8" screen
APEX PD 100
5.8" screen
APEX PD 150
7" screen
So anyways just posting to clarify what I read at the end of april in both the mag and apex's site
Hope this Helps?

FYI, I attempted to purchase the Apex unit on Wal Mart site and this item is listed as "out of stock". Spoke with customer service mid morning on 5/30 and was told they sold out Wednesday night. Apparently, the purchasing dept. underbought. They can't promise when or if this will be reordered. Perhaps a few phone calls to the Wal Mart online customer service at 800-966-6546 will show that there is customer interest in this player being reordered. Thanks.

The circuit city ad for Sunday June 9th shows them selling an APEX portable, 4.8" screen but says models may vary by store. Unfortunately they want $279....
