My Canon G2 produces .AVI video files. What should I do with them to use them in iMovie (or perhaps other software)?

    Will QuickTime Pro help me?

  2. I have a PowerShot S40 - I don't have the system in front of me right now, but I believe you load them into Quicktime and export into DV format.
    Then iMovie can read them.

This requires QuickTime Pro, no? I tried some AVI to QT OS 9 app, but it didn't work. Is there a freeware app available, preferably for OS X?

  4. Quicktime Pro is the only solution I've been able to find for AVI (at the price), especially if you want to go into iMovie with its exclusive use of DV format. It was probably the best $29 I've spent - given the costs of most good media-conversion utilities.

Awhile back there used to be an avi->mov converter, there is one out for Divx avi, but I don't believe that is compatitible with standard (AVI).

There's probably something out there somewhere, but I have never been able to find it.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll wait for QT 6 Pro to come out. Apparently while the password for QT 5 Pro works with the preview for 6, when 6 officially comes out they're gonna want you to pay again according to the Apple website.

    Thanks for the info.
