Can anyone tell me why all my files are at least 30% larger when I drag them to a VCD compilation in Ahead Nero? For example, if I take a 660mb Avi and drag it over to my vcd new compilation, it will show up on my status bar as a 925mb file!!! I know that vcd requires some files to allow players to recognize them and all that, but I thought that was only like 1.5 mb total. Is this happening because I am not factoring in the encoding process? Does encoding add to the file or make it larger?
Also, does anyone have any links to where I can purchase 800mb 90 min CD-R's?? Any help would be VERY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First NERO will automaticly encode your AVI's to a VCD compliant MPG before it lets u burn.
Second Thats why your files are bigger...If you want to control how they are encoded.... Encode to MPG1 VCD standard or non standard (allows you to tweak bitrates, for smaller files) first then burn with NERO.
Third I've been told that a 80 minute cdr will hold 800 mb... but your burner must support overburning. (mines cheap and does)
But the largest movie I've personally done was 762 mb. Now I just tweak the encoding (using TPMG) till my movies (some as long as 2 hours) are smaller than that and burn to one disk.
Also I dont know why I numbered these.....just spewed forth that way. -
when you make an mpeg you cannot expect it to be he same size as it was before. comparing mpeg to avi is like comparing english to chinese in english you'll have to make a whole sentence where as in chinese you might have one symbol that means that whole sentence.¸They are not the same language and therefore cannot have the same properties.when you do a standard vcd, you can fit 80 minutes of video on an 80 minute cd. Over burning is never a good idea as it can damage your burner and will most likley waste your cd. Buy a 99minutes cdr if you want more space. by the way when dealing with (s)vcd you can usually get a great deal more on the cd than what in MB is normally possible. This is due to vcd and svcd not using error correction like which is used when you make a data cd.
BTW encoding to mpeg does sometimes make the file smaller.#videohelp on dalnet!
