Quality scale from best to worst:

    DV Cam
    DVD
    MiniDV
    BetaCam
    SVHS
    VHS / SVCD
    VCD

Picture quality on Vcd's are ineherently worst. Blockiness is normal. Dark colors blockiness is normal. Fast motion blockiness is normal. Also, depending on your source as well.

  3. Not necesarily so.

Betacam SP is already better than miniDV and sometimes better than DVCAM. Believe me, As I own both formats and work daily with some others: Digital Betacam Rules! But D9 comes close and is way cheaper. D1 is still the standard to which everyone measures up against. D2 is dead meat. D3 is just useful in Mexico thanks to Televisa who bought almost half of Panasonic's production.

But the point is you CAN have better image quality from your VCDs. Capturing from better quality sources helps.

Just try some vcd templates from this site's tools section, and, better yet, go to Kwag's site: http://www.kvcd.net

Can I make standard VCD 2.0 compliant VCDs with the templates found here?
