  1. i have made backups of about fifteen movies and I am very pleased with the video quality. I am really stuck on the audio though. It seems like everytime someone talks, especially in a loud voice, it sounds like it is being played through a small radio at full voume. do you know what i mean. I can understand everything said, but it just doesnt sound right. The other audio like music and background sound fine, its just when people are talking.
I'm still new to this, so it might just be normal for vcd, but if its not and it can be fixed I'd appreciate information on how i can do that.

  3. What you're hearing are most likely artifacts caused by TMPGEnc's low-quality resampling from 48kHz to 44.1kHz. Fortunately, there is an easy fix for this problem:

Download the freeware sample rate converter SSRC (http://shibatch.sourceforge.net/ ) and use it as an "External tool" in TMPGEnc ("Option > Environmental setting > External tool > Sampling frequency convertor"). TMPGEnc will then automatically use SSRC for resampling, which results in a much better sounding audio track.

While I like and use SSRC - for a long time I used SCMPX
this is another TMPEGenc supported external encoder, it is slower than SSRC but includes a very smooth resampling filter, I only use it now for extreme conversion say from a heavily compressed movie from the net with low audio settings - it tidies them up a treat. I only mention it so you have a complete set of tools
you can find it here - http://www.din.or.jp/~ch3/index_e.html

copy it into the TMPEGenc folder and go to envirnomental settings
SCMPX can act as all the external plugins if needed and TMPEGenc has the option of switching between them as you need!

  6. A dodgy dynamic range compression setting can screw up relative volumes too. I not entirely sure if this is your problem, but turning it off will solve this issue.
