Hi,
Does anyone use this combination successfully with the ADVC-100 or? I know that at one time there were problems mentioned with XP and nVidea with some capture cards.
I am looking at either the ADVC-100 or a DV camcorder for capture.
Thanks,
Deb

I have an ADVC-100 and have experienced no problems with an Nvidia TNT2 ULTRA nor with WinXP. Now using Win2k again for other reasons. But there is a problem with the Texas Instruments' TI LV23 chipset used in firewire cards like in the Adaptecs and DLinks. Pyro use the LV26 chipset.

I would think that if you can afford it, maybe you should buy a DV camera. I don't believe there's anything internal that will wear down during converting and you will also have the camera for other uses of course. Just make sure the camera supports pass-thru.
I decided to put my money more into editing... still need a DV camera. The Canopus A/D converter has been reported not to be true in color. Maybe it isn't. The only time I kind of notice it is when I think about it. You will probably run into similar things with video cameras. As for ADVC-100, I'm happy with it.

Thanks TheSeven7hSon. It seems really hard to get that information. The specifications for the cards tell me everything else. If it's OHIC compliant, is that sufficient, or are they entirely different things? I don't suppose there is a compatability list somewhere?
By the way, how do you like your ADVC-100 - are you happy with it?
Thanks again,

OHCI (Open Host Controller Interface) whatever that is, is probably just a standard. I guess unlike a proprietary conection. I think the Dazzle Bridge uses a proprietary conection between the box on your desktop and the card inside the computer (not necessarily bad). The ADVC-100 uses your typical firewire port. You can buy a card for about $30 if you don't already have one. A Canopus tech support sent me this list - http://www.sfc.wide.ad.jp/DVTS/usage/config.html but I don't know just how usefull you'll find it. Just get a Pyro and you should be fine (PYRO BasicDV Card http://www.adstech.com ).
I like my converter. It's a simple, basic unit. Analog in-DV out. I bought mine as a bundle with the Canopus DVRaptor RT and the transfer software to bring the video in. The Pyro card will come along with some light duty software but you may outgrow it soon if you need editing features. The converter gets warm so give it some room to breath. I would of suggested you read some of the comments about this box in the Capture Cards section, even though it's not a card, but it's down right now. This unit can defeat Macrovision. I've done it once to test it and it works.
I'ts kind of tricky. When you turn it on, two blue (Bright!) LEDs will light up and then settle on the analog one (depending on the little switches on the bottom). By pressing on the silver botton on top the box will then switch to the DV one. This will allow DV --> Analog conversion. Again, it's kind of tricky but by holding the button down from analog and then releasing it right before it goes to DV (about 3sec) it will turn off the Macrovision protection... or is it press, release, press-hold and then release... or is it from DV to analog... Dunno, you would need to play around with it.
It's a good product. Canopus has built a pretty good reputation on their quality. It cost $300 from Canopus or about $280 somewhere else. There's also the new ADVC-50 for $100 less (analog-->DV only) and it may be the same tech but don't know of any Macrovision defeat at this time. And again, the ADVC-100 may take out some of the saturation but I wouldn't worry about it.
