  1. Ok I've been trying to play around with irc because everyone keeps telling me i'll get better quality downloads but I've run into a few problems.
    Here they are:

    1. I have a cable connection and see that people have top connections at around 10kbs on irc. What am I doing wrong, people always say they get great speeds?(that's really noy great).

    2. Is this the channel I'm in or is it something else wrong?

    3. Are some channels better than others?

    4. Could someone recommend some channels for me to try?

    Thanks in advance

  3. LOL......Expect the mighty mr pink to come in here and roast yer ass m8.....................................

It seems as if asking for this kind of information is a mortal sin..........

I asked and got something to the effect of

"**** off and spend 12 months finding the good channels yourself.
Even though people generally try and help each other i'm fucked if i'm gonna help you coz you'll take up precious download slots that someone like me could be using to get what I want.....**** you and learn it *******...."

The only info people who are well up on IRC are willing to give to you is what you can find by doing a search on Google.

Good luck and I really hope mr pink comes and proves me wrong........

  4. Thanks wellmahed

    Intresting reading

Now see if you can answer this

If I got into a room that had high speed downloads and got a file that Mr. Pink or Jeex didn't have yet and then left my computer on 24/7 (like I alway do) wouldn't that actually help them or someone else in these high speed download hubs?

I don't know , but someone on this site is starting a vcdhelp channel I think.

    Thanks agin wellmashed

  5. I don't think it works the same way as p2p where on p2p other people would be downloading off you as soon as you have the file.

On IRC you download off one source, not off other normal users like us.

This source may be a T1,T2 or T3 connection which is why people say it's faster coz you will be able to download at your maximum capacity.

But that again depends on how many people are downloading off them.

Just because they say there is currently 2 slots in use dosen't mean there are only two people downloading off them.

They might be in 50 other rooms as well.

I may be totally wrong in my understanding of this and if I am then someone can feel free put me right but this is how I think it works.

  6. IRC works like p2p programs, but without all the bullshit, the spyware, the over inflated programs and 1000x more possilbe ways to get stuff.

Many of the commands are from basic dos or nix commands. They are listed in the Help Manual (Help menu) (if you use MIRC, all the better).

If you are confused, simply type help. It'll list you all the comands that you can use. There are shortcut buttons as well.

If you wanna find something, the help manuals shows you how to find stuff. You just have to be willing in learning the program.

Took me all of 20 minutes to figure it out. Anyone can figure it out.

As for dl speeds, its all dependent on the end user. So if the end user is on a cable hook up, but you have t1, you'll be hindered by their being slower than you. Same with p2p

  7. Yeah...But what I was getting at is like Kazaa will use a file I have in my shared folder to send parts of it to another user.

Your telling me that IRC uses the same setup......

ie. I download a file on IRC and it comes off anyone else logged in with the same file ?????

    Multiple sources ?????

  8. Ok WizyWygm,

What I need to know is where are all these great download speeds everyone is talking about 100 plus kbs?

I already know how to use irc but the record speeds that is posted when
I do a !list are not even close to 100kbs most of them state between 10-14 kbs on average and the most I've seen is around 30kbs so what gives I get over 14kbs almost eveytime I use Imesh.

What do you think is my problem the hub I'm in?

    Thanks in advance

  10. What is the diffrence between F-Servs and XDCC?
Fservers are run by average joeblow, very similar to p2p programs like kazaa, imesh, whatever. So since the majority of those people have either cable or dsl isp providers, your download speeds arent going to be that high, 16-40k/sec.
XDCC are bots. They arent people, they are usually t lines that have different packs available.

if you want to know a bit more about mIRC, I put together a how to doc. You can download it here:http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/77231194/bc/My+Documents/How+to1.doc?bcTp4_8AxV_bx911

Something i would like to make clear, if your just starting to use mIRC, as much as you would like to be in the top channels right off the bat, its not a good idea. You need to have a good understanding of the way the program works, the little details of it. I suggest for all those who are just starting off, find some of the smaller channels, your speeds may not be as high, but you will get a better understanding of the program itself.

  11. Thanks for the suggestion Mr pink

I have downloaded two movies so far. I know you wrote that guide for new irc users that was nice of you.

I have a couple more questions question if you or someone is willing to answer that would be great

How come when I connect to a server I can't get the same channels that I did last time I went on mirc? I found a good channel and now can't seem to find it again.

What is a good server to connect to for beginers?I've been using DALnet

    Thanks in advance

  12. some channels move around to different servers, or some just go under all together. Personally i think if your starting out with mIRC, you should stick with the dalnet channels for a bit, just until you get a bit more comforatable with the program. For the most part, the channels on dalnet are smaller, and the people are generally nicer to the new users. If you happen to come across some of the top channels in mIRC, you may not get help when you need it.
