  1. I've installed a Pioneer DVR-A04 on a P3 w/ XP as Secondary Master. I can read CDs and DVDs no problem. But Nero, Ulead DVD Workshop, and Record Now do not see it as a writer. I have set the IDE to PIO, in BIOS and in XP, to no avail.

I had a HP DVD200i installed before this on the same IDE connection, with no problems. Any thoughts?

    rphunt...
I have the same problem but here are a few things you can check.

When you select the properties of the drive (from explorer) do you get a "recording" tab?
Also, try DVDit as it can identify my drive (DVR-104)...also try a newer version of Nero. My version at home (OEM 5.5.3.2) won't recognise the pioneer but my version at work (5.5.8.something) will. Both PC's are Athlon's and both have a secondary CD burner (Acer at home and a Sony at work). I'm yet to upgrade my version of Nero at home but if I do and it works, I'll post back here.

Sorry....my work version of Nero is 5.5.9.something....I think......anyway, I just upgraded to a version of Nero that I had on hand (5.5.8.2) and the Pioneer is now one of the drives in the list.....however, since my version of Nero is the OEM version, It will only work with the burner it came with....namely, my Acer ......anyone out there in burner land now how to get around this.....without resorting to getting a crack copy ot paying anything....I like Nero but this is a bit stupid....I didn't replace my burner....just added a new one.

  6. You can buy Nero for something like $7.77 from a link that shows up all the time on the main vcd help page.

  8. Bartman,

I checked the recording tab in the drive properties and indeed found it disabled. I fixed that. I also installed Nero 5.5.9. Now things seem to be working. Thanks much.

For my next trick, I will attempt to have both my DVR-A04 and my DVD200i installed simultaneously...

All sounds good.....I also got Nero to accept my dvd burner.....with a little effort.

All I need now is a standalone DVD player that will work with burnt DVD's. I've tried a dvd-r in my standalone (Philips dvd570m - apple media) but is don't seem to want to work.....it chews the disk for around a minute but must not like the taste because it spits it out without playing (or maybe it's a conspiracy...because Philips is in bed with DVD+R )

Any thoughts on what is best....Apple or Princo ( Apple disks in Australia are $11 each...Princo are $6.40 )

Apple disks work - the others may work most of the time . if one out of 10 don't work -- i guess you are better ahead with the cheaper disks ..

Phillips players seem to not have very good luck playing DVD-R's.

The problem with disc compatability is, just because a disc works in all four of your players, does not mean it will play on your customer/friends player.

    I know this from experience.

Check out the threads in the other forums for info on this.

    Thanks...

I read on the dvdplusrw.org website that my player won't read dvd+rw and probably not dvd+r either..

    Oh well.....such is life...

  13. I'm able to burn with the DVR-A04 no problem. Now I have the DVD200i connected as well, and will do burn test on that.

My RCA DVD players play both +R and -R no problem.

I think I'll also try to have the Pioneer read +R(W), and the HP read -R(W), and see what happens.
