garbled screen on dvd player

ok when i play a vcd i burned, i put it in my standalone dvd player and it plays but theres no sound and the screen is garbled with colored squares covering the hole screen

how can i fix this and what is cuasing it?

if you just burned the mpeg onto the disc as a data cd, it will do that. it really has to be burned as a VCD, with the folders in it

i tryed to make a vcd like that but then my dvd player just sat there sayin loading disk and did nothin else

you should see if your dvd is compatable. some are completely useless for vcd's
