if you are burning with nero 5.5, then you will have trouble playing back on an apex660.
use VCDimager to create a disc image of your vcd as cue/bin and then burn that with nero.
the resulting vcd will play flawlessly in your 660.
adaptec is only necessary for disc-at-once on-the-fly audio cd copies....
