  1. I used TMPG to covert an Avi file to mpeg by following the tutorials on here.

This is how the settings were set:

Size: The size of the movie in the avi file
    Aspect ratio: 1:1
    Frame: 29.97
Rate control: 2-pass VBR (1150 max, 0 min)
    VBV buffer size: auto

    Advanced Settings:
Video arrage method: "Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)"

    The rest was left alone.

However, when it was burned and played back on a DVD player, there was no audio, and the picture was really tiny, in the top left corner of the TV screen.

I've searched for a solution on these forums, but havn't found it - probably due to not knowing what to search for. What could be the problem and how does one remedy it?

It depends on the size of the avi in the firt place, if it was 352x288 then that is it how it will stay using your settings. You can increase the size to TV standard 720x480 but you will get jerkiness & loss of resolution.

  3. Oh, I hadn't realized it wouldn't be full screened.
So do you burn your movies using the original size or do you enlarge it?

And regarding the audio issue, is converting the audio and image seperately the only solution?

It sounds like you just dragged the avi straight into TMPG which explains why your audio went missing. You have de-multiplex the avi first go to your mpeg tools to do this.keep the size same as the source file do not try and enlarge it to make vcd you will need an m2v file which will a sixe you can adjust.
