There are 800 and even 900 MB disks on the market.
If you want to cut the video into several parts, start here:

  3. If the file you downloaded is an mpeg-1 file, chances are that you can burn it as a Video-CD (e.g. using VCDEasy), in which case it will easily fit on a 700MB CD-R.

  4. it is an AVI video file

would I be able to compress it with winzip or winrar??? or would that not make much of a difference??

i just need to have it fit on a 700 meg cd, i am strapped 4 cash and don't want to go buy more cds.

Compressing an avi (DivX) will likely make it bigger. If it could get any smaller, they would have built that into the codec!

What you could do is save out the audio to an uncompressed wav using Virtualdub. Then you could use Virtualdub with the video at direct stream copy, and for audio use full processing mode and use a higher mp3 compression, or better still, ogg audio. Whether you can get down to 700 MB though without an unacceptable drop in audio quality is another matter. Only one way to find out. If you want to try this, check out the guides. If you still want to try this and need more help - ask again. 8)

  6. I've burnt upto 735mbs on a 700mb cd. I used nero 5580ver for TDK 32x compatible cds. It works fine.

  7. might be worth trying to convert it into a VCD mpeg using TMPGenc, I did that with spiderman and got three files each over 700mg down to 1.13 in total, effectively reducing the size by over a third.
    Hope that helps!
