  1. I have several ATI VCR files that I need to convert to MPEG files so I can create VCDs. I don't have the option of recapturing them. The Library tool that comes with the ATI MMcenter could be used but it will not function on my computer (fails to initialize). ATI tech support says it is a known issue and quoted an information bulletin with no resolution date. The ATI site claims that there are 3rd party tools that can be used to recompress the files using some other CODEC. I have not been able to locate any tools that understand the VCR file. Tried several tools and all choke. My search of this site only has one solution, the ATI library tool which is not an option. Any suggestions??

    Thanks

  2. Try TMGenc with the MPEG-2 Plugin if the source is MPEG-2. If MPEG-1 then you are all set. You may just need to De-Mux and Re-Mux the stream if the video and audio bitrates are correct or very close. Video size must be 352x 240 NTSC and 352 x 288 PAL otherwise it is a Non-standard VCD (XVCD).

The link is available in the tools section of this site.

Did you get an answer for this? (.vcr) extension format is not recognized by TMPGE, so how can you open it then re-save/convert it? Found the answer. It's through the ATI Library file, you can convert it by right-clicking there. Thanks VCD members.
