I use MMC 7.6 to capture home video and create XSVCDs. There is a 3:2 reverse pulldown option for MMC 7.6 capturing. I have tried different ways but never made it. I normal capture home video using S-video port, after a quick "merge and cut" using TMPGenc, I burn the XSVCD directly. Since the 3:2 inverse pulldown will save input source frames by 20%, I think extra bits will be available for either better image quality at the same bit rate, or I can further reduce the bit rate to achieve the same quality I am getting now.
Here are the things I tried:
Using the reverse 3:2 pulldown option of MMC, captured some video. During play back, the video part goes faster than the audio part. Using the BitRate Viewer, the stream was 29.97 fps. I thought it was supposed to be 23.97 after capture. Then I found pulldown.exe. I first demuxed the video and audio using TMPGenc. Then I used pulldown.exe to change the frame rate to 23.97, 29.97, with pulldown option, without pulldown option, or anything I thought that might be related. After I muxed audio and video back. One setting gave me better audio/video sync but was still off a quite bit. At the end of the day, I could not make it.
I am still doing the standard thing without using the 3:2 reverse pulldown during MMC capture. But the puzzle has always been with me. If anyone has made it, please provide some hints.
