I am generating hi-res SVCS PAL stills (704x576) with VCDEasy but when I view them on my widescreen TV from both my Dansai 852 and Dansai 1010 they appear stretched horizontally.

It is not the TV that is doing it (they are stretched even when the tv is in 4:3 mode, and double stretched when its in W16:9 mode), it is the DVD player that is doing it. The same stills play with the correct aspect ratio on my Cyberhome 528 and on the PC.

I know that getting the incorrect aspect ratio on motion video can happen if they are encoded with the aspect ratio set wrongly (the player tries to adjust the aspect ratio accordingly), but there is no setting for aspect ration on an MPEG still, it should display as 704x576 fullscreen 4:3. Period!

Why the hell do Dansai players stretch the stills horizontally? To get round this I have to 'squash' them horizontally *twice* the normal amount (once to corret the aspect ration for the widescreen TV, and again to compensate for the Dansai's annoying habbit of stretching them. This means they look correct on the Dansai, but wrong on my other player (and the PC).

It is not being caused by the TV type setting on the Dansai (I think that only affects DVD playback).

It only happens with stills, motion video plays at the correct aspect ratio.

Is this a bug in the player? I thought this was a great player until I found this out. All the SVCD menus I've been creating which looked great on my Cyberhome, are now all stretched out of proportion on the Dansai.
