  1. i can only afford one hard drive for my new system, so i was wondering, for capturing video, would one of the following be better than the other?
And if yes or no, why/why not?
(I dont know what impact HD's do or do not have on capturing)

    seagate barracuda 80Gig 7200rpm
    western digital 80Gig 7200rpm with 8MB cache

    I'll have a P4 1.8A with 512MB 266 DDR RAM

    Thanks :)

Either one should be good for capturing. They should be UDMA ATA 100.
It's best to have two HD 1 for the OS and the other just for capturing. I have the 100Gb version of the WD you listed just for video purposes. It's the substained writing throughput that's important for not dropping frames with hard drives. Also defraging the HD before and after capture will help you. I hope this helps you, have fun cayuting

May the force be with you.
