  1. I've been coming across some weird interlacing problems lately. Here's another. All episodes on this DVD series has normal interlacing. This one particular episode has splotchy interlacing. I don't know how else to explain it so I've attached a clip. Can this be fixed? What caused it?

I do not know what you mean by 'splotchy'. I do not see an issue but there are many others on here with greater knowledge on these things. But are you de-interlacing and then discover the issue ? With that in mind do check the field-order of the 'normal' ones and compare with this one. Whilst mpeg2 can be TFF or BFF (TFF is more typical), this sample was actually BFF

If you run the clip i uploaded through a deinterlacer and compare to the original you'll see what I'm referring to it makes it even more obvious. This clip is straight from a remux it hasn't been edited in anyway. This is straight from the DVD. Only this one episode is like this.

Ok. I think I now see what you mean with the disturbence on the lower parts of the objects on the desk, for example.

I know this series. Can you advise me as to which volume, and episode this clip is taken from. I own several so I may be able to compare with my own dvd which must be 15+ years old now.

  5. The video has already been deinterlaced, poorly, leaving some comb artifacts. That residual combing can be reduced with a filter like vinverse(). Maybe followed by QTGMC(InputType=2) to reduce the buzzing.

O wow that would be awesome. It's Best Of Bizarre Volume 8, Episode 1.

    Thanks for the info.

Had a look in my library and can only see Vols 1 to 4. I seem to recall that when I acquired them they were really difficult to source from this side of the pond. And would never had known about them had not a few series appeared on Brit telly.

But jagabo, as ever, probably hit the nail on the head. For whatever reason, (maybe the compilers did not have that episode and had to outsource it to ensure a complete series), it was encoded as progressive and only marked as interlaced in keeping with the rest of that series.

Wow that filter is amazing. Thank you so much for the suggestion. Do you know what the difference is between vinverse and vinverse2? I haven't been able to find a description detailing the difference.

  9. As far as I know vinverse2 is a faster but less effective implementation of vinverse.
