I recently got a Panasonic HS860 in excellent condition and have played a few tapes, then all of a sudden it started jumping and going black and white, sound is fine though. It does this with every tape i play. (I've attached a video example) The odd thing is, when i capture from the VCR and run it through my TBC, it plays perfectly fine on my PC when it gets to VirtualDub, though i did notice some minor distortions, but clear, stable and in full colour for the most part.
Any ideas what is causing this issue and how can i fix it?

Looks like a tracking issue. Did you try to adjust the tracking of the HS860 manually?
Secondly, think about getting this fine movie as a blu-ray, it's worth the buck -
I just tried it again today and seems to have sorted itself out! I'm guessing playing many different kind of tapes too close together messed with the tracking, though never had that problem in my old machine (identical model)
And i had it on Bluray! Though i sold off my collection a while ago, might download it in 4K
