  1. I was wondering whether there's way to convert regular Bluray HD to UHD HDR10. I've seen ppl try and convert YUV to 10-bit, but true HDR would be nice.

    Nope.

What would guide you, AI, or anyone as to the appropriate new brightness levels? It would be a wild guess (series of 'em).

Inverse tone mapping would require, indeed, some form of AI, guesstimation, or just manual choice; like DGHDRtoSDR does, but then in opposite direction.

  5. You can do the new grading with DaVinci Resolve. I have no experience with this, but I know that many use this program for this purpose.

  7. A HD-Bluray does not contain HDR10, HDR10+ or Dolby Vision metadata. They are SDR.

"UHD" and "HDR10" are different terms. Although they are thought as a "couple", they don't have to be together. UHD videos can also be SDR. No obstacles... UHD is a term about video resolution, HDR10 is a high-dynamic-range (HDR) technique. UHD enlarges the field (with much more pixels), HDR tries to improve that enlarged-field (Higher bit color depth is another thing "to improve the field").

You can make them "UHD SDR", but those AI upscalings are not good. I've seen some AI-4K-SDR videos by a release group. Not anywhere near the official 4K-blurays remastered in movie studios.

    HD-bluray film = 2 million pixels (1920x1080), SDR, 8 bit color depth

    UHD-bluray film = 8.3 million pixels (3840x2160), HDR10/HDR10+/Dolby Vision, 10 bit color depth

Don't convert them to another. Just leave them as they are.
