    What is the full forms of..
    HW
    HW+
    SW

    Are they decoder's, which decodes and plays?just like ffplay?
    What are the differences between them?
    Which one is best?
    Who released first?


    Btw screenshot is from an android application MX player

    hw = hardware decoding (= whatever the chip of the player supports)
    hw+ = hardware decoding + software decoding if hardware decoding seems to fail
    sw = software decoding = usually libav based decoding

  4. Small correction, since you mentioned that this is from MX Player:
    HW decoder plays video(s) using stock media framework whereas HW+ decoder plays video using MX Player's own media framework. In general, HW+ decoder can play more videos than HW decoder. However, some devices may not support HW+ yet and some videos may not be played properly.
