Do profiles affect Xvid codec?

I had been suing Xvid for years but I always wondered if the profiles within the encoder affect the quality of the video output? Or is it just there as a prop?

The profiles usually set limits or constrain things like bitrate or resolution.
Best thing to do is to set the encoder to defaults.
