  1. Hi.

I am looking to save some old VHS tapes(maybe vhs-c? From a jvc gr-ax210 camcorder) to my PC. I bought some cheap converter a while back and used it with virtualDUB but the audio was very bad and the video quality wasnt very good either. So how do i convert them with the best quality possible?

Do i get a VHS/DVD combo and then record the VHS to dvd or do i need to output to hdmi to a capture card to get the best quality?

    Thanks in advance

What did you expect from "some cheap converter"?

You could. DVD\VHS combos are the worst players out there. The results will look worse than the tapes.

That's definitely not the best quality.

Why don't you do it the way people have been doing it for almost three decades? If the tapes are worth anything, It means reading a few things and finding out what's going on before you crap up your tapes and waste time and money. http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/video.htm

I guess i thought it might be cheaper to convert decades old low res low framerate video than modern high res high framerate video

  4. Use a good VCR and an usb 3 video capture unit. Most of them have useful software with them. Otherwise, you can use virtualdub.
