Two of us just downloaded V V 3.

First, we can capture DV for our Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridges with no trouble using Main Actor v3.65, MGI Videowave 4 SE, Ulead Video Studio 5 and 6 Trial, Adobe Premiere Trial, and Scenalyzer Trial. (Obviously, we're looking for new software)

But we were losing from 1/3 to 2/3 of all frames on exactly the same machines! Obviously this isn't acceptable. Even after installing V V 3 we could capture using any of the other programs.

Also, the Trial would only play 2 minutes of video even from the timeline. This is inadequate for a real test. We would rather they littered the output with messages (like Scenalyzer Trial) so we could do a real test.

As it stands, we ruled-out V V 3 and are still looking.

    Regards, Allan

  2. I agree 100% Adobe Premier works awesome. I just installed V V 3 and I get hundreds of dropped frames. What crap. My machine is a AMD Athlon 1600+ with WD 60GB 7200 drive using the Pyro 1394dv card. Every other capture program works fine for me too. There is just something about V V 3....

Owell I'll just have to stick with what works (ahem, premier) :D

  3. I have used Premiere 6.01 and VV 3.0 on both an Athlon 1.33 machine and a lowly PIII700 machine. Both machines have 512mb of PC133 ram and 2x7200 rpm hard disks in each machine. Both programs capture DV flawlessly on both machines.

    A followup:

Watching the DV bridge closely, it appears that V V 3 assumes it is talking to a real camera. It appears to be playing a little bit, rewinding some, playing a bit more, etc....

So instead of implementing a simple buffering scheme (like Scenalyzer and others) it would rather wear-out your camera.

Still Unacceptable even if I had a real camera!
