  1. Firstly a big Hi to all members both old and new!

    A little about me

Entertainer ( Singer/Guitarist,Band & Solo Artist ) Local and World wide events, Rockabilly music and Rock n roll...

My Game Plan is to add video to my backing tracks and project them whilst the backing track is playing to add another dimension to my act.

The video clips will be original footage from past gigs and clips taken from You tube and other video clip sites. ( ie the original singer/bands )

I dont want to use a program which is over complicated ( all singing and dancing )as the work i will be doing will be very basic.
So i will use Windows Movie Maker as its easy and i have used this a lot before and for what my requirements are this will work perfect for my needs to begin with.

All of the new Video/mp3s will be played from my Laptops multimedia player and HDMI link to a Projector .

    Here are my 2 problems.....

    1. I only want to send video to a projector not the audio , i want to send the audio to my Mixing Desk. is this possible or will i have to run a lead from the projector back to my mixing desk ideas welcome please ?

    2. When the new video/mp3 is playing and its come to the end im left with a projection of the media player on screen as this is a mirror image from my laptop which is ok but not ideal do i have any other options to stop this which may be a screen saver or something ideas welcome please ?

    Thanks for your replies

Firstly, I see no issue in sending the audio stream to a mixing deck. After all that's how external speakers work - you use the audio out of your laptop to link to the deck.

Does , in the first instance, a projector have any sound output ? If it does then you simply mute it.

I would be more concerned with relaying copyrighted audio/video in a public place. Forget that it is on youtube. That is their problem not yours.

For the other issue, I would create a playlist in, for example, vlc and use that to 'project' the video/audio. As long as you have the abilty to pause the stream as and when you need to.

Set up your video or playlist to loop. Or, if you don't want a loop, then add a long tail to your videos with your logo or just black or whatever you want to be on screen after it ends.

i will try this to see if this suits my needs .

All of the venues i play do have a PRS or PPL lenience, and im not claiming the footage is my own work apart from the songs i wrote.

I am looking to get a projector next but my knowledge is not great . Below are my requirements

    1. I dont need a all singing and dancing projector but it still needs to do the task in hand without any issues .
    2. which are the better projectors Led , lcd , dlp to gain a good bright picture.
    3. which are good units for a good price ( second hand my be a option but not sure )
    4. what lumen's will i require to gain a good picture

    thanks tj

    What is your budget?
What is the background/ambient/environmental light level (as the contrast between your projector and this is ultimately what is perceived as the brightness range - our eyes auto-adjust).

I would put the order of the quality of projectors this way (best to worse, also most to least expensive):
    Laser-LCD
    Lamp-LCD
    DLP

LED is usable for direct emission display, or as source for LC operation, such as marquees & TVs, but doesn't work as well for reflected (front proj) or tranmissive (rear proj) forms of dispay.

Realisticly, a new pro/business class basic projector that operates in fully indoor spaces with strong contrast onto a 8' diagonal screen is likely to cost somewhere in the range of $1k-2.5k depending on resolution and light source.

Do the venues you'll be showing your work at not have projectors? Where are you planning to place your projector? They're usually hung from the ceiling as projecting from a tabletop will give you a skewed screen. How big a screen are your looking to project on? Is there even a screen? Projecting on a blank wall will require a higher luminance (i.e. more expensive) projector.

And most importantly, why use Youtube videos, which will look terrible blown up to a big screen. Don't you have the original files?

^^ My friend makes a valid point. Many public venues have projectors since they often show sporting events in this manner. But the problem could be altering the default setup and the venue might not be prepared to do that.

I would propose an alternative arrangement. Two large monitors on stands to be located right and left of your performance. You would invariably need an amplified distribution to split one hdmi cable in to two outputs.

BTW I am well aware of the existence of PRS/PPL. But my thought process was that they covered artists rights. The actual promo vid is normally owned by the record company and I did not think that re-transmission of that was covered by these licences. Of course you could always contact the record company for such clearance and maybe they would be kind enough - good publicity - to give you good copies and then not rely on poor yt ones.

Which media player are you using and does the projected video have to be a mirror of the laptop display?
If you can set it up as dual displays, you can configure MPC-HC to go into full screen mode on a particular monitor (ie the projector display) and come out of full screen mode on a different monitor (ie the laptop display). MPC-HC can also be configured to automatically close after playing a file.
Or you can run it in minimal mode and all you see is the video. Like the screenshot below. You can either right click to access the menus or use keyboard shortcuts to run it.
There's a list of command line switches under the help menu too.
