  1. I have been in the process of backing up my DVD copy of the Sopranos - Complete first season onto CD-R. I use smart ripper (2.41 i think it is). Then DVD2AVI and then TMPGENC. In tmpgenc i set it to high quality (slow), source aspect ration is 16:9, i have it full screen (keep aspect ratio). Then i start the encoding and goto sleep. When I wake up i have usually about an 800 mb movie file and that plays great, no skipping or jerkiness or anything. But when i burn it to CD (i've tried using the latest version of Nero and VCDEasy with Fireburner) I have tried buring at 2x-6x speeds.

The resulting SVCD looks great for about the first 40 minutes or so. (episodes are usually about 50-60 mins long) After the first 40 minutes the movie will get a little jerky (weird blocks and such will appear on the screen, etc.) The weird thing is that It doesn't always do this, sometimes it will do it less or more and at different points in the movie.

I'm using 80 min Imation CD-R's and an Apex AD-1100W DVD player.

Your problem is the media your using. Data is written inside out on the disk, so the last 10mins or so of your movie is on the outside of the disk. This is the hardest part of the disk for your dvd player to read so often it will play fine up to a point then start to mess up. Just try using a different brand of cdr, I've never had luck with Imations anyway.
