I find it somewhat incredible that a member of some 3 years standing needs to ask such a Q.

But apart from the above check out the Video Streaming Downloading sub-forum and you will see topics and other tools that make this really easy.

  4. Yes this is very easy to do.. only reason it might not work is if you have an older tv that doesn't support flv, mp4 etc..
    AMD ATHLON XP 1700+ CPU
    ABIT KR7A-R MOTHERBOARD
    512MB PC2100 RAM
    SONY 21" TRINITRON CPD-G520 MONITOR
ATI ALL IN WONDER RADEON 8500DV 64MB NTSC
ENERMAX FS-710BB 330W FULL TOWER CASE

Now it is DASH so traditional audio+video inserted within container approach is no longer case for YT and plenty of similar services.

The original post is regarding the downloading of a video NOT the streaming method used.

So, depending on the format the TV supports, the downloaded file for playback would be an .mp4 or .webm.
youtube-dl will include those file format options.
No need to download any of the DASH options that show.
