Hi Guys , is Quick time Pro still available to buy, I saw a post the other day that said this software was no longer available? I know the QT Player is available , I downloaded it. I want a simple MOV file editor?

  2. Somewhere in the quicktime player (I don't use it any more) is an option to upgrade to QTPro. If it takes you to a website and accepts your credit card, that's how you do it. It's very possible Apple has stopped selling it as they are no longer supporting it or writing security patches.

Did you try MPEGStreamclip for editing QTs?

The Pro option was abandoned with QuickTime Player X.

Player X refers ONLY to MacOS, but there is still a v7.x player (with Pro features if you pay for them) that one can DL and use. Players in Win are still at ~v7.79.
Player X is based on 64bit AVFoundation, while QT/QTPro 7.x is based on 32/64 QTKit. Many legacy codecs cannot make the bitness migration, but Apple just decided by fiat to change what they'll support.

I have had QTPro in my Win systems for many years, though I'm weaning off of it now. The ONLY difference between "Pro" (unlocked extra features, incl. export) and original consumer (locked) player is the added Serial # info that unlocks the player.
I don't know if their website is still accepting Pro requests for Windows platforms, but if they do, it's only $29USD.

Regardless, I STRONGLY recommend that you migrate your MOV assets to something better/more cross-platform (unless you are a strictly Mac-Only workflow).

Hi smrpix. downloaded streamclip and QT Alternative. Bit dubious about this software, the QT Alt? although some good videos on YT concerning Streamclip. so I put them on an old Dell 2350 running XP sp1 I have low memory.1GHz. on this machine , but it installed the 1080p MOV video files, however it played very jerky If I pluck up the courage to put this software on my 1.8 Dual core Dell Latitude I have a feeling it will run just fine. but I will have to take a n image to make sure I can get may system back again. Many thanks much appreciated .

What do you mean by "editing"? Just simple top & tails?
How many files are you referring to? A couple dozen or so?

Then either go free via CLI with ffmpeg, or pay the 29 and use QTpro's graphical interface.
