  1. I need to burn some regular data CDR / DVDRs and also burn some images too. Years ago I used to use things like Nero, IMGBurn, etc... but have since gotten new PCs and either don't have those old programs to install, or there are concerns about adware, etc. with IMGBurn.

I know that Windows has built in data burning functions, but would like something with more options... and I don't really know if Windows creates / burns whole image files.

Can anyone recommend what to use or install these days on current (Win 7, 8 or 10) systems that's reliable and junk-free?

In case nobody gives you a glowing recommendation for something, VideoHelp provides a listing of burning software here: https://www.videohelp.com/software/sections/burn

Assuming you don't want to buy the latest version of Nero, the only free ones on that list with no mention of bundleware and recently released versions are BurnAware, cdrtfe and CDBurnerXP (portable). I haven't evaluated any of those myself.

The older version ImgBurn 2.4.4.0 has no open candy or ads and works perfectly fine with Win7, Win8 and Win10. I even tested it with a DVD writer connected via usb to a Win10 Home tablet.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

It's easy enough to De-Candy ImgBurn, and I still recommend it most for the majority of burning needs.

I'm another one of those still using ImgBurn. I didn't find it difficult to avoid installing the bundleware included with the installer package.

  6. I recommend ImgBurn. I have the older version that was mentioned and it still works fine after all these years.

  8. Imgburn. Highly recommend this hosts file for blocking all kinds of questionable sites and unwanted crap, but be aware that your favorite site may be blocked - in which case you edit the file.

I don't see any such concerns on the latest version of ImgBurn, if you stop being lazy and just choose NOT to install the additional software. It's as simple as a mouse click!!!

  10. ImgBurn and CDBurnerXP are both good, but yes have had issues with Opencandy. You can use the Ninite Installer to install both easily without the adware though.
