  1. I have used DVD Decrypter to create multiple vob files for certain selected chapters. I was careful to ensure that subtitles were included on some chapters.

I can play the vob fine in VLC and can turn on subtitles where appropriate.

I tried several software offerings to convert each vob file to wmv but so many just didn't work, they were looking for a whole dvd and complained about that or said the IFO files were invalid etc etc.

Evebtually I found one which simply just recoignised the vob file loaded and exported it to wmv fine. Idealshare VideoGo. It has a setting to say to definitely include the subtitles in the conversion and the subtitles can be seen in subtitle edit window and in the general conversion ptreview window, but as soon as you do the conversion, no matter what I do I cannot get the subtitles to come up in the resultant wmv file. I have also tried other formats mpg2, avi, etc. No avail.

It took me so long to find some software that would actually recognise these extracted single chapter vob files and now it won't convert the subtitles. I have taken a long time over this.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could solve this?

Another minor issue any conversion from the vob file setting identical aspect ratio, leaves the horizontal plain just ever so slightly squashed. Is this just one of thoise things? A limitation?

    Thank you.

With the vob files, you essentially have external subs (ie: the sub titles are not hard coded to the video, but are a separate stream within the file). None of the formats you listed above support subtitle streams within the file (not that I'm aware of anyway). I seem to recall divx had that support, or currently mkv. As it's not supported in those formats, media players likely wouldn't support it either. So even if your program is actually adding the sub title stream to those files, it likely won't play as you suspect. If you need to use those formats, you could hard code the subs to the vidoe, or create actual external sub files like srt. Otherwise, switch to a format which actually supports sub title streams within the file.
