Need VCD playback help

I am trying to play a vcd on my Phillips dvd711 player. The picture and sound look great, but the playback is horrible. Every 3 seconds or so, the video pauses and then starts up again. It does this repeatedly. The VCD plays smoothly on my computer, but on my Phillips DVD player, it continues to have trouble running the video playback smoothly. Is there some kind of setting I should have the player in? Could somebody be kind enought to tell me how to correct this problem? Thanks.

Did you look up your player in the "DVD Players" link to the left. That may give you better information about what your player is capable of.
