This according to it's website is a small command line program that downloads videos from youtube, and many other sites.
I have no idea what a command line program is?
I use smplayer. It seems that smplayer through mpv uses youtube.dll to stream videos from particular. Does this mean that when i stream a video using smplayer, that the video is downloading as well.

  3. Hi Steve. I imagine you're talking about “youtube-dl”. A command line program is one which doesn't have a nice interface for you to click buttons and select options. To open the command line box: Start/All Programs/Acessories/Command Prompt. Usually best to right-click it and run as Administrator.

    Here's a basic tutorial for youtube-dl:

Save youtube-dl.exe to, say, E drive.
    Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt
Just type “e:” (without quotes and followed by Return)
    Then type:
youtube-dl "http://www.youtube.com/watch etc etc" (the quotes are needed)
The video will save to E drive.

    For HD YouTube vids type:
    youtube-dl -F "https://www.youtube.com/etc" [F is not the drive]
Once Command Prompt has finished, type:
    youtube-dl -f 137+251 "https://www.youtube.com/etc"
where the numbers are the best available video and audio streams.

Why go to all that trouble? How about keepvid.com ?

  5. Sometimes a downloader just doesn't work with certain vids. Always good to have a fallback system for when that happens.

  7. Don't know but I wouldn't have thought so. If it is, there'd be a setting for you to choose the download location. Have a good old rake through the Preferences/Options/Settings tab...

Thank you, but no info on it. I'll ask at the smplayer forum.
