Well I still want ya to know that I love my [standalone] Terapin VCD Recorder!
But I ran into something interesting... I bought my vcd recorder this winter but something strange has happened recently.... the weather has been getting warmer! So what does this have to do with the Terapin you ask? Well I was recording a movie in my room last night and it was goin ok until the recordin monitor started acting "choppy". I thought the movie i was recording was messed up because it was from a vhs. But I noticed it was very warm in my room and my Teripin was HOT! so I turned it off for an hour. I then turned it back on, this time i had the windows open and I had a fan blowing on my Teripin to keep it coolwell it worked!
My question is.... Is there something I can buy to keep my machine cool - like a "heatsink" of some kind?

Get some of those refreezable ice blocks from your local Walgreens and prop them beneath your Terapin fully frozen. Should keep at least the bottom of the machine good and chilly!

Well, you're already pointing a fan at it.
Thats pretty mechanical.

thanx alot dude... but i was asking for alternative methods... not your sense of humor... you may think you are funny and maybe your friends do too. but i really dont care...

Well are you sure its heat related, I ran into this problem with a terapin when recording from certain VHS tapes, it seems the control track fro the VHS was out of sink slightly which would make the video choppy. I had ran aterapin 6-8 straight with out any problems and I had 2 of them.

well it was choppy when i was viewing cable tv too... sometimes I have that same problem if VHS tapes are messed up but when the cable was choppy i new i had to turn the terapin off for a while. Like i said it was pretty cold in my room the last couple months and recently it has been hot weather.

Of course you dont appreciate my sense of humor. I'm laughing at you, mr "I pointed a fan at it."

I point a BIG fan at it. Seriously. I noticed that after 2 to 3 hours of recording, disks started coming out pretty warm, almost hot. So I got a 16" floor standing fan and put it at about a 45 degree angle right of center front of the recorder, about 12" to 15" away.(Basically pointed straight at the right front corner.) This way I can keep a fan on it, but the fan isn't in my way. Now disks come out cool, no matter how long I keep it running. So laugh if you want. But it works, and I don't have to stop and let it cool down every couple of hours. And I'm in Florida, where it can get up into the high 80's in my apartment. So this ought to work for anyone, anywhere.
When the warranty runs out, I might try to drill some holes in the case and mount a fan to it, but not until then.
see ya,

well thanx again amd for nothing as usual... i guess most people get a big kick out of going to www.vcdhelp.com, reading peoples messages and "ripping" on em but I jus cant see the humor or have the time for that...
Anyways...
