Ok. I have a bluray drive I just installed in my laptop (quad layer drive nice)
the last time I tried to burn a blu ray disc (just data disc not a bluray movie) it failed (using an external bd drive over usb)
is this a hardware issue media issue of software issue?
for burning simple data discs what software should I be using? is imgburn fine? something better? will they handle the multi layer 3 and 4 layer 100gb 128gb discs?
I don't want to mess with my one and only $20 100gb disc until I can burn a normal 25gb and then 50gb disc reliably.
good tutorial on this anywhere? what do I search for? url?
any help is greatly appreciated.
converting my own 4k content to BD will come laterfor now I just want to dump data to these discs without making coasters.

hp 8770w Core I7 2.4/3.1ghz QM - 32gb ram K4000m 4gb video. Good machine.
I tried previously on my desktop (hex 6300) 16gb ram R9 200 video driving a 4k panel.
I was leary of trying again till I figured out what was wrong as the discs are quite expensive.
I think it was rosewill media. I will check tomorrow and report back more details.
imgburn will do 3 and 4 layer media? -
I use only Verbatim BDR discs, both 25GB and 50GB versions. Hundreds of BDR burns with ImgBurn, no failures.
If you use inferior discs, you will get inferior results no matter what burning program you use.
3 or 4 layer discs. Check the cost per GB. Dual layer is often cheaper than single layer. No idea about 3 or 4 layer.
Here's the ones I've been using, not necessarily from this supplier:

The discs I have opened are memorex. Pretty sure I have rosewill somewhere.
Not worried about cost per GB for now. I got a single 100gb to play with nothing more. IE I want to be able to do it once the price comes down on the media. will stick with 25 to 50gb for the most part until that happens.
I am trying one now. will see what happens. I DO like verbatim always good results with their DVD-R media. they are my favorite next to tayio media.
wow the dual layer is really expensive compared to the single layer too.
not a bad price for the single layer though. just snapped up that open box one for $25 shipped! -
you'll have to try imgburn to see if it will burn those type of discs.
i know that the next generation of bluray discs will use those new discs but
you will need a new bluray player that can read those discs because the ones that are out now
cannot read them -
not worried about blu ray plauyers. for me I just want to burn data disc for backing up my stuff.
the burn went without a hiccup. no errors reads back fine.
going to order a dual layer 50gb disc and see how that goes.
