Hi,
I am a total newbie to the world of AV and encoding and I need some help about re-encoding an AVI. It is a 640x272 AVI encoded in XVid, with a fair bit of noise. I would like to re-encode it into x264 and the container of MP4, remove the noise and improve the quality a little bit. I have already fixed a bit of the noise with Avidemux, but in the process, it removed some of the softer lines in the video. After that, I used Movavi video converter to convert it to 1280x720 and I tried using HandBrake to encode it one last time, but I see no big improvement over the original video. I still have the original video, and I would like to start the process all over again with a bit of your help. So, again, my question is, how do I re-encode it into x264 without losing quality, then how do I remove the noise and improve the quality? Also, if it is possible without losing quality, I would like to resize it into 1280x720. By the way, if I can keep the filesize as small as possible, it would be great, but not necessary, I would just like to keep it under 7 GBThe original file's filesize is ~700 MB
Thanks in advance.

If you like that movie buy a blu ray or dvd and rip it to another format.

You're not going to improve the quality by much. Some advanced AviSynth filters may help a bit more than the things you've already tried. But you have a steep learning curve there. Upload a 30 second clip of the original file. You can use VirtualDub in Video -> Direct Stream Copy mode to trim out the sample. Then upload it here.
