.OK. I bought a DVD...Easy Rider 40th anniversary. I want to cvopy it to my PC for playing.
First effort was to simply copy the DVD files to my HDD.Filed due yto encryprion.
Next tr4y Handbrake. It worked, but when I watched the DVD, it was not exactly pixelated, but was all chopped up in the video when played in VLC.
So I tried VLC as the ripper.VLC would not recognise rhe contecnt of the result.
So I tried Freemake and asked to rip a DVD to H264 (MP4). Thios gave nice clear output, butr the only volumes available to watch were Title1 and Title 2. Both of them were just "features" where a pile of people talked about the making of the movie.
So is all this downb to copy protection (in which case I will bin the DVD and never buy another from that company) Or is there a wy to get a result?
In handbrake I pretty much used stock settings. In VLC I seemed to have little choice. Same in Freemake
Thanks for any help.

Have you tried a good/real dvd ripper? Like anydvd, dvdfab decrypter, dvdfab passkey or makemkv?
Then convert it to mp4 with handbrake, vidcoder, etc. -
OK...Bob...
I will give that a go. If I get it ripped as a DVD to Audio and Video, unconverted, thge rest is really not needed. All of myother DVDs are simply images. TRhis is the first one to give me this grief

OK. Your reccommendations all behaved like crap for me, many of them wanted money. I have ONE DVD that is giving me grief. Every time anyone asks about DVD rippuing trouble there are a host of replies about this and that programme, whicj ALL give trouble to various peoiple.
Now. Are there DVDs that behave likme I describe as a way of protection. THAT is my question.
Kay? -
ALL store bought, factory pressed, Hollywood DVDs have copy protection of some sort.
HandBrake has NEVER been able to defeat the built-in copy protections of store bought DVDs.
"RIPPING" is an exact copy of a DVD....minus the copy protection.
HandBrake is an encoder(re-encoder).
There are free portions of DVDFab (called DVDFabDecrypter) inside the DVDFab program.
MakeMKV is also FREE(when it expires you download it again). -
DVDFab Passkey (with a lifetime subscription) can also be downloaded at no charge until Dec 7.

I downloaded DVDFab Passkey and did submit my email address, but didn't recieve any registration key. Can you tell me how it works?

HI.I ended up using DVD Decrypter and it did the job. I do know _what_ was happening when I was converting it to mp4 on my other tries
Thanks

Not so sure. Both Handbrake and VLC claim to be ab le to decrypt, AFAICS. But one produced rubbish output (soert of maxi pixelated) and the other only produced the "voiceover" versions.
HENCE my question about whethe a protected DVD could behave like that...which nobody has addressed AFAICS. Forall I know the "maxi pixelation" is jusy some setting in Handbrake.

WHere does handbrake claim to be able to decrypt?

b) Your source is copy protected. (HandBrake is not a ripper, it does not support removal of copy protection.)Last edited by Baldrick; 3rd Dec 2015 at 14:51.

The DVDFab Passkey giveaway is a total BS. First of all, you can't update to a newer version, because if you do it will revert to trial! Second, you have to install it before Dec 7 and cannot install it at a later time, for instance if you ever reinstall Windows.

You might have to wait a while before someone who's often opened protected discs with programs that aren't able to open them comes along, and done so enough to know if the copy protection would always cause programs to misbehave in the same way, because not too many here would be in the habit of doing it.

I just upgraded it and the registration window still tells me the DVD/Bluray licence will never expire.
It didn't seem to check online before accepting the registration key. I double clicked on the key and the registration window popped up immediately. I can't imagine that'd work any differently on the 8th Dec, but I'm going to submit a second email address to get a second key for a relative's computer. I'll leave it until after the 7th to install that one to see what happens.
I've never used or even seen DVDFab Passkey until now. Did DVDFab rip off AnyDVD or did AnyDVD rip off DVDFab or it is just co-incidence the two programs seem so incredibly similar? -
I just gave the information that was stated at http://sharewareonsale.com/
I don't know if anybody ripped off anybody, but AnyDVD is around since July 2003 so it's much older than Passkey."The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." -
Did you use the libdvdcss from VLC Media player in Handbrake? See http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/rip-a-dvd/ . But it might not work with all dvds...

copy the DVD files to my HDD.Filed due yto encryprion.
