  1. Hi,

I'm searching for a software to capture clips of a live source. For example in Blackmagic Media Express: If I press "Capture" it starts to record (for example: a live source), when I press it again it stops capturing. Then I can press it again and it will record again, but in the meantime there are some seconds/frames missing. I need the whole live event captured in different clips WITHOUT losing any frames. So I need a function to "clip" the capturing and NOT to "stop" and "start" it again.

    Which software can do this?

Bonus: A further task would be to name these files (clips) automatically from a sorted XML or CSV source, so that this has not to be done manually.

    Tanks for your help!

  2. You're actually talking about live subclipping since you still want to capture the entire source. Surprisingly it appears only Avid Media Composer Has it fully implemented. Other programs can add markers during capture, which may suffice for your needs, but it appears to be pretty rare.

  3. Hello smrpix,

thank you for your reply. I have to apologize for my mistakable explanation. I don't want to keep an extra file with the entire source AND the clips, instead I want ONLY the clips, but all clips merged together should contain every second of the event. I'm not sure in which way you understood my statement.

    Confused.

If you want 'every second of the event' why don't you just do a single capture ?

Stopping and starting will always result in some loss since the software/hardware/hdd has to create a new file/restart the hdd etc.

  5. Hi DB83,

after (even better during) the event parts of the livestream have to be uploaded to an on-demand server. There the clips of the event are stored together with meta-data and everyone can watch the clips (special parts of the event). So I need clips of the whole event - not a single capture. Without losing any second of the event.

Cutting these clips after the event is too late and too much work, compared to do it live - including the meta-data.

  6. So you want to create virtual subclips of live streams in real time? You're looking at products like Microsoft Azure or Unified Streaming.

    http://www.unified-streaming.com/
    https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/
    https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/dynamic-manifests-and-rendered-sub-clips/

(Yes, mentioning Blackmagic Media Express led me to believe you were editing video rather than streaming.)
