What Temps would I expect with a CPU OC?

I have the stock intel i7 core 870 2.9GHz with i30 cooler plus speedfan sets fan to 880RPM & game in 28-30C room temp, (any higher & I usually turn on air con). My temp sits around 38-40C max. So I'm hoping anyone could say what temps I would get with a 3.8GHz OC? Would it be just significantly higher or sky rocket with this fan speed?

Depends on what type of heatsink fan you have,if it maxes at 40c on game play expect another 10c rise but 50c is quite low so it should be ok.

Thanks, I found you can set fan speed to kick in to max 1300rpm after a certain temp, that would be even cooler.

If your MB lets you.... my motherboard adjusts the fan speed according to temperature when that's enabled in the BIOS. I've set SpeedFan to limit that speed to 85% all the time, otherwise it gets too noisy when the CPU is working hard (the third party fan spins faster than the stock Intel fan when the MB is controlling it). I don't need maximum cooling because the third party fan/heatsink is far better than the Intel one and still keeps the CPU cool enough. In my case I had to change the fan control option to "software controlled" under SpeedFan's advanced settings, but now the fan always spins slower than the MB would otherwise run it, but the MB still adjusts the speed according to temperature, and to be honest, I think it's better at it than SpeedFan (I've never been able to configure SpeedFan well for a gradual speed increase as the temperature rises).

Of course you can still set SpeedFan so at a certain temperature it lets the fan run at 100% if need be, but in my case 85% is fine all the time. I haven't overclocked much.

It will get hotter and the fan will get louder. Other than that, anything other than a very rough guess is impossible without a LOT more information, such as video card type and distance from CPU, direct outside air source for CPU, intake and output fans on case, other heat sources in case, proximity of Northbridge chipset to CPU, airflow path inside case, etc., etc.

Fire it up, measure temps while stressing CPU, adjust overclock and/or add fans as necessary. More outside air, and outside air directed to CPU and chipset, and good exhaust flow, will at some point be more important that the cpu cooler itself.
