note - I have Windows 98SE
1 - Does anyone have their ATI TV WONDER NTSC running MMC other than 6.3 or 7.1? How did you get it to work? Please point me in the right direction! Thanks!
2 - Has anyone had any luck getting the specialized drivers from sourceforge.net to work? Tried installing them yesterday, and right at the end of the install was told that it would not work. Had to re-install the ATI WDM drivers, and luckily, everything is ok - but I'm not satisfied with the 240 height limitation. I want more (specifically mpeg1 at 352X480, or even better, the ability to capture anything in virtualdub, or direct to Windows Media Encoder!)
THANKS FOR ANY FEEDBACK!

I can't help with the last part (I'm suffering from that myself) but I can help with MMC 7.5 and MMC7.6.
Make sure to uninstall existing MMC first.
With MMC 7.5 you need to edit the setup.ini file and look for the the DetectHW switch and set it to zero. Then it should install everything fine
With MMC 7.6 you actually need a file from MMC 7.5 (setup.inx). Copy this into your 7.6 folder and everything installs fine.
I was able to get 7.5 and 7.6 at www.filemirrors.com -
Fen - do you have the TV Wonder - what will 7.6 change? Will I be able to capture at a vertical size greater than 240??? Thanks!!

Also, do I have to remove the hardware from Control Panel System, along with the application, or just the app? Standard install style like 7.1 - drivers first (for hardware) then the app?

Yes, I'm working with the TV Wonder PCI with XP Pro and a Duron 900.
I haven't been able to get 7.6 to give me over x240 resolution yet. But it does seem to make my VCD (352x240) captures look better. Plus, 7.6 has the timeshifting capability, although I haven't been able to get that to work (granted, I haven't tried too hard yet).
I didn't remove the card, just uninstalled 7.1 and removed all mention of ATI from my register, then reinstalled my drivers and then MMC.
That's what I'm guessing our problem is right now- drivers.
Hopefully, smarter people than me can help us with that. -
Hmmm, still nothing greater than 240. I'm leaning towards installing the specialized drivers from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ - I'll lose the ATI apps, but the tv tuner will still work, and now I'll be able to capture direct to divx, windows media, and of course, virtualdub which can do anything, even realtime mpeg! And, at any size - 720X576 no prob!!! Now, if I could only get the drivers to work (but again, didn't really try to hard just yet.) ANY HELP OUT THERE???

Fen - have you done anything registry-wise in an attempt to get over 240??
Thanks! -
If you use my tool to set higher resolution it will capture but it won't display as it's recording.
I've received a lot of reports of TV Wonder users doing this.your pal,

So there is the possibility of capturing at 352X480 for example, but there will be no preview while this takes place?? Not the end of the world, because I could always use my camcorders LCD as a preview window? That seems like great news, because I like the ATI apps and would rather install 7.6 than the WDM? drivers that are out there.

Ok guys here is what I do to change the height and width. First go and set up a custom setting in ati pick 320x240 or what ever is close give your custom setting a name so you can remember it. then go to start run and type regedit. now select local machine. click the +software then click +ati next click multimedia then features then +tv then +video capture. Now you will see a folder called custom open the folder. from here you will see on your right the height and the width size you selected earlier. it will be the last number on that string. to change the height and width you need to right click the height select modify select decimal box then at this point put in 480 or 576 or 640 or 720 and select ok. do the same with the width right click width select modify select decimal put in 352 or 480 or 576 or 640 or 720 and select ok. You are done just x out. let me know because this will work. If you go back and look at your custom setting in mmc you will still show that resolution. But you are really capturing in the resolution you changed in the registry.

Ok thats a good suggestion but if you use my tool you don't have to go into your registry the tool will do that for you. That way there is no risk of making a mistake. Just FYI
your pal,

Hey stinky you are correct. I do this way because your tool was not out when I was making changes. Your tool is great have used it before.

Great news - I just wish I could get some confirmation from someone who owns the TV WONDER and can confirm capture sizes of 352X480 (or larger!) - anyone out there??? I need confirmation (with MMC 7.6) THANKS!
-
I've seen it confirmed a bunch on http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/70438
and people have emailed meyour pal,
Stinky -
Hello, anybody home? I think I confirmed it above with my post. I have an ati card. Done the size change many times. Just follow the post or get stinky's tool believe it or not they both work.
-
Sorry, I'm slow! I'm just worried that people are talking about their AIW's which are different from the TV Wonder.
jpb -
Can the 352X480 captures be acheived with 7.1, or is this something that 7.6 adds??
-
First I want to pay homage to Stinky for all the superior tools and documentation put out!
I must have something wrong in the area of drivers or something because I used the registry tweaker to set up a SVCD profile but when I went to record, the counter didn't register that it was recording and when I went to play the file back, I'd get a couple of seconds of audio and no video. I believe I have the latest ATI drivers.
Any ideas?
