I'm looking into a new dvd player, but I'm seeing different names for progressive scanning, I always thought that they were all the same. Are there really different ways of progressive scanning, and if so what is the difference.

hi, I might be wrong about this but don't you need to have a High Def. TV for progressive to work, don't all "normal" tvs have interlacing?

I believe you are right.
Let me clarify my original post:
I was browing the higher end Pioneer dvd players and came across a listed feature called TrueCinema progressive scanning then while I was on the vcdhelp dvd player compatibility list, looking for a player which would play s/vcds fairly well, I came across a middle-end player, the Pioneer DV-444, now in the comments I came across comments stating that this player did not output "true" progressive scanning, this led me to believe that there were different types of progressive scanning, I'm hoping someone could clarify this for me.
