The monopod, arguably the most looked down on tool with die-hard traditional video and film folks.
What do you think, is that warranted?
Sure tripod is better but a monopod beats the tripod by a mile in terms of mobility and flexibility if the space it tight. Especially for the on-man-show.
So are you a friend or foe of the monopod?

Who is arguing this? Just you. I know of no media professional who discounts the value of the monopod, and I've already described that I own and use one regularly.
You seem bent on continually stirring the $h!t.
Scott -
Good for you! But the world, or this forum for that matter, does not revolve around you.
I made a perfectly valid topic about monopods, in fact I use them as well.
I like to ask you to stop attacking me in every single topic, it is uncalled for and is getting really annoying! -
I am NOT attacking you, quite the reverse: You make very provocative comments (some would say attacks) and I am just calling you out on them. This site doesn't revolve around you either. This site has remained for over a decade as a forum for mainly even-keeled discussion. When a troll appears that threatens the integrity of this site, it is perfectly valid to expose him for what he really is so that (hopefully) the trolling not continue. Heck, the troll can even remain, as long as his trolling ways are put aside.
For example of your provocative comments: starting a "perfectly valid topic" with "arguably" and "looked down upon" and "die hard traditional" shows you clearly have some axe to grind. Those are all highly inflammatory and loaded aimed phrases couched in the guise of inquisitiveness but not really veiling the contempt you seem to have for certain sections of the population and certain careers.
It is uncalled for and is getting really annoying.

So you say you want to have a topic about monopods? Tips on techniques for using them? Things that might could be attached to them? Good brand purchases? Use scientific facts that can be backed up with examples. Use personal experiential anecdotes. Nobody has a problem with those, even if they might continue to have opposing views.
It is the nearly constant deflection, backhanded derisiveness and unequivocating, tunnel-vision hyperbole that you spout that I object to. Others do/have, too. And those objections will continue to be voiced when necessary, otherwise this site would devolve into "the newpball rant" show. I for one do not want that to happen.
Another example is the "what cam to get my girlfriend for her birthday" thread, where I and a few others attempted to make valid suggestions. You made a few suggestions yourself, but when doing so you ignored the OP's original constraints (particularly budget) and gave info which was invalid. You got called on it and you deflected with a rant on the strict meaning of handhelds, then a rant on how handhelds are worthless (derisive again), and then decided to take a poke at Blair Witch (not necessarily in that order), all the while ignoring the strong examples behind the arguments contradicting you.

Hey man, the "problem" is you're just throwing out your own ideas and beliefs, and we all have our own unique view too. For me I don't care, but a majority of members probably want to engage their brains in a useful direction, like helping answer a question or help a member.
What you're doing is "chumming" the waters. -
Yea but I still have a bigger post count than anyone here so far.....and that's all that matters.

I'm gonna have to make another comment, and try and catch up to some of you. My post count is low. Man, I thought I was a yakker, but some of you really take the cake.

He's been clued in before. Repent? You must be kidding. He prefers to continue being as annoying as possible and then play innocent when someone objects. That smiley at the end of each post is indicative of the sh*t-eating grin he has on his face after posting, not good intentions.

When I was in 3rd grade the joke was "master debater" -- but that didn't seem appropriate in this context.

The old classics just keep getting better.
I'll bet you masticate in public!

well, i don't particularly care for the monopod. I bought one a few years ago but could not get reasonable steady or steadyér video while using it. there is still wobble and jerkyness in the video.

Yeah i know, i am responding to a thread created by this banned member, but this is not about him, it is more to ask why this topic is in this the "off topic" section, and not elsewhere, cos i decided to take a good look thru some of the forum sub sections that i usually never see, and found this.
Maybe i should create another Thread in the right section and see what goes down, because i have a few opinions about Monopods (ooops, does that mean i am opinionated) but i do not want to discuss it in this banned members thread.Last edited by glenpinn; 11th Aug 2015 at 04:14.
